What a great piece of history. I’m with my friend being interviewed in this. I loved finding this little gem. Thanks.

I was there! That was me being interviewed about not needing to shave your head to be part of the scene. I was stationed at San Diego at the time. What a glorious day in the sun that was!

0:45 I was the same way in the 90's. I didn't need to severely alter my look, I just enjoyed the music I wanted to.

Went there from Camp Pendleton with my best Marine friend, and was blown away by the little 16 y/o Bow Wow Wow singer doing I Want Candy as she skipped across stage like an indian war dancer. Badass! Also got a new respect for Tom Petty there. Unfortunately both he and that friend recently died. Make sure you really LIVE before dying people!

That was the best concert I ever went to and I went to a lot of them living in San Diego and then being so close to Los Angeles. It was a great time.

Lol I was the girl with the navy beret, during the I Melt with you clip, then my High School boyfriend was the one with the red beret. Too funny. Ramones, Bow, Wow, Wow. So many good bands. It was a lot of fun:)

They didn't show me, but I was the guy with the super tall (over 1 foot) mohawk slam-dancing with the SD Chicken. - Made the newspaper but not the tv news.

Was there. The Ramones killed it. SD Chicken did the "duck walk" across stage with a leather jacket on. Priceless

Wow, it was named Jack Murphy Stadium Carlos, and when they changed it from to Qualcomm was a huge deal--was wrong too!! But how did he get away with saying they were dressed weird--really weird, yeah they looked really out of control bc of they way they were dressed too!!! I saw many many many concerts at the Jack Murphy stadium, I've seen Supercross and Monster Truck shows there as well. Reporter or who ever posted this video should have done just a bit more research, having said that, 91X has always had epic af concerts thats a fact--reporter didnt even mention the 91X radio station either, probably a fan of country music!!! 🤣🤣🖤🖤🤘🤘

Before 91x became a pop station run by surfer drunks

What was pop about it? They were always one step ahead of playing a lot of ranges of genres that fit alternative (alabama shakes, kurt vile, temples, fontaines dc, car seat headrest, etc), with the popular stuff that (whether you like it or not) still fit alternative (Twenty one Pilots, Vance Joy), yeah Imagine Dragons is shit but they stopped playing it this year outside of the top 20 weekend event where they played every top 20 in the top 91 lists of the past and they got featured in it, but that wasn't all of alternative in the 10s. Now it's just become classic alt which sucks as there's less new music and variety. Halloran is a god and under music direction until his firing in 2017 he was kicking ass, I like Garett and Hilary and the gang too (I mean many have always flipped flopped in the radio business since the 80s anyway, 94.9 was at it's prime in the early-late 00s under Garett and Halloran, and people like Marty and Hilary have been on the station in the 90s/2000's and then leaving around the time in the 00s when Capone and Steve West were on and still around, before returning in the 10s, and while I may not be as in love with the station in the current classic direction (I want both old and new with surprises here and there), it's still miles above Audacy. I don't want to hear popular classics forever on a format I still like supporting.

Silence. Yup, gonna confirm a lot of the 91x audience just wants the same 80s shit over and over again, while great, makes for a boring experience. I'll continue to support the Alvvays plays and Yves Tumor appearences, as well as Loudspeaker, to hope that one day, they'll return to an old/new fusion, what alternative deserves to be.
