That's a tough one. Little bit of a bump at the top.... but Bolt didn't seem too fazed. McKinzie just outran him in the final strides. Could have just as easily been a non-call.

he didnt get DQed for the bumping at the top, if you watch the head on, Mckinzie comes out 2 paths from the sixteenth pole to the finish line, that was what got him DQed

Jetfan44 I get that, and I saw it on second watch. But here's the hook..... left whip, horse comes in a bit, fine. Did It impede Bolt's momentum? Does he run past if that doesn't happen? Neither of those questions have a conclusive answer. That's why I say non call

it seemed like bolt hit a brick wall when he ranged up on McKenzie but everyone seems to be forgetting that this was his 1st race off a 4 month layoff....so to be that impressive against a stellar horse, makes me think going forward that he will only get better. Most horses get tired easier when they run off a layoff till they get back in peak form.

The way McKenzie had his ears "Radaring" waiting on Bolt d'Oro on the slo-mo near the finish line, they could of run around the track a second time and McKenzie would of held off Bolt. I like McKenzie going forward....definately passed the gut test.

It looked like Bolt d'Oro made the early contact, and McKinzie made even more contact afterwards. Provably should have been a no call, but, I like Baffert but he's had more than his share of calls go his way. Some that shouldn't have, Bayern in the Classic. So, what goes around, comes around. Bob hinted he might avoid Bolt d'Oro in the SA Derby, he said he might just race McKinzie some where else, or, maybe he just didn't handle the call too well. A couple things to consider, Bolt was coming off a 4 month layoff, hasn't raced since the BC Juvy, and Mick Ruis had said he was only 80%! Ouch! If that was only 80%, just think what he would do to McKinzie at 100% with a recent race under him. Maybe Bobby better ship McKinzie to Sunland Park. He would more than likely get a win there.

No, McKinzie came out and made pretty solid contact and stopped the momentum of Bold d'Oro. If the race had not been so close the results probably would have remained the same but it is not hard to see that the contact probably cost Bolt d'Oro at least half a length or so. Tough one for McKinzie, but a good call.

james davis I realize it's a little early,,pre-draw and all, but who are you leaning towards for the Derby? I'm sticking with Bolt d'Oro. I think he's consistently ran against the best competition, he beat Solomini when he was running good as a 2 yr old in the Frontrunner, battled McKinzie down to the wire in the San Felipe, and then faced Justify in the SA Derby who kind of had an uncontested lead and the track played against him, the track was slow, judged by the slowest SA Oaks in over 30 years. Bolt d'Oro had to face the cream of the crop in each of his last several races, and I think with his pedigree, he will turn the table on Justify, who's lack of foundation will catch up with him. Plus, I'll get a better price now on Bolt d'Oro, maybe even 10-1 ! And I'll take that happily :-) Good luck.

I believe it should be a No DQ. Yes there was bumping at the top of the stretch but Castellano tried to cut off McKinzie early thinking he had enough room. Javier knows he did wrong and got away with it. McKinzie is clearly the better horse and I am happy they still got the second place points.

The 4 horse was drifting to the right which happened when the jockey hits him with his left hand. Castellano put BDO in good position and Smith could not switch his stick to left hand. With 50 Derby points the stewards had to make the tough call. To bad Baffert showed no class in defeat, but his magic touch seems to be on the down slide.

Smith was suspended 3 days for this. Came into him a few times in the deep stretch. They said it affected his stride by at least a head. You can see it on the head on. I think it is a terrible ride by Castellano. Why not just go out to the 3 or 4 path and charge home? Better yet, why take the right whip to Bolt and drive him into Smith and Justify when the colt was moving just fine in a direction around them? Ridiculous...

Bolt d’Oro made the turn at the top of the lane while Mc Kenzie came out some . In the lane Mike and Castellano had horse , how ever Mike got crafty . The judges are scared of Bob.

Some of these stewards do not have a clue. I think they made the wrong call in taking down McKinzie. Most stewards have never ridden a thoroughbred. That alone says it all.

Now that was a RACE, both ran great Mckinzie showed guts once again and bolt D’oro showdd he’s still one of if not The top dAwg in his class “right now”. This seemed to be one of those the racing gods giveth the racing gods taketh away becuz last out in the Los al fut it looked like they gift rapped and gave that win to Mckinzie when they shouldnt have and this time they took it away from him. This should be a very interesting KD this year

Bolt D'oro has tremendous 2 year old form and wasnt cranked up 100 percent vs Mckinzie who hates the whip doesnt respond well when being whipped, WAS cranked up all the way and might have distance limitations theres ur difference

Shameless larceny. At no instant did Bolt break stride or was slowed in any way. In addition, at the top of the stretch Bolt cut in and bumped Mac a couple of times with no clear effect.

Snowysnowgirl123 SA stewards have taken a lot of heat over the years for making calls in Baffert's favor, some were starting to question it, maybe the stewards thought this time they better let a close call go the other way, against Baffert this time. Could have went either way. Look out for Bolt in the SA Derby, with a race under him now, cranked up more than the 80% for this race. It's scary to think what this colt will do when fully cranked up and pushed.
