This is great! I just saw the movie "Vertigo" and was thinking about the locations some of the scenes were shot in, and I found this video. I was thinking how much they could have changed throughout all the years...

Thanks for your comments about the video. I agree completely with you about Vertigo being Hitchcock's masterpiece. A lot of people think that it's also one of the greatest films ever made: I certainly do.

Great video, I have been by each one of these places many times as I have lived in San Francisco for the last 15 years. I never knew all these where in the movie. Thanks for sharing it with us

Hi, I live in England, but have visited SanFrancisco many times. It's one of my favourite cities in the world. I can't wait to return! The locations were shot more or less at the same time: late morning and afternoon. Hope your stay there goes well. You need strong legs though; those hills can be pretty challenging!

Thanks. Just a note: The Palace of Fine Arts, which is neither a palace or a fine arts locations, was completely rebuilt from scratch in the mid-1960s and is not the original as seen in Vertigo.

Thanks for your comments about the video. How lucky you are to live in San Francisco. It's one of my favourite cities, and I try to visit as often as I can. From what I have read, it was Hitchcock's favourite city too.

I have been to San Fran twice. However, I was with people that have never seen the film so I didn't see any of the sights. The whole time I heard the hermann score in my head.

900 Lombard was remodeled at street level in 2013. The Vertigo facade is now gone.
@misterjoe80125 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that current owners of Scottie's apartment were tired of "film tourists" and decided to change the appearance of the facade to make it unrecognisable. Very sad indeed, but easy to understand.

I was referring to my video series, not his, which not only match the same camera angles from this film (also Dark Passage, an I Spy episode, etc.) but also includes clips from the original films/shows. As usual, on KZbin one always has to overstate the obvious for the sake of clarity.

I'm very surprised at how little change there is between these sites now and at the time of the movie shoot.
@krasteff13 жыл бұрын
This is surreal, compared to the film almost nothing has changed. As far as I know, this is no. 2 of all times, after "Citizen Kane".

Yes, it's a lovely city. Sad that that the front of the house has now been re-modelled. Can't say that I blame the owners: who wouldn't want to protect their privacy? Best wishes from England.

Very well done filming. I did a similar then-and-now recreation of the scene at Stewart's Lombard St. house -- and other film locations. See "My Life in San Francisco (1989) pt 3".

Coit Tower was shown but not highlighted. Missing are Midge's apartment on Union St., Argosy Book Shop, Ernie's, Portals of the Past in Golden Gate Park, Bay Bridge, Bethlehem Shipyards, Buena Vista Avenue Sanitarium and Podesta Baldocchi flower shop at 224 Grant Avenue.
