I've played that game using a manual transmission. Rush has a clutch like hard drivin but unlike hard drivin you can shift Rush without the clutch. When shifting without the clutch you don't need to let up on the gas or you can use the clutch and shift it like a car.

Played this at all my family gatherings since my uncle had an arcade and taught me how to preload credits. I remember the exact corner - around 7:55 in your video - where I first ever learned the concept of braking. Before that I would just floor it the whole time and hope I landed right side up going fast enough to still be in the race. Now I have a Logitech wheel & pedal set and a PC that could blow away any of these games, but arcades had something special. Maybe it was the near-opaque cigarette smoke.

Great arcade racer. If you ever get a Rush 2049 cabinet in (any edition), I would greatly, greatly appreciate it if you did a video of it. The arcade versions differ greatly from the console versions and are unplayable in MAME. Worse, good footage of the arcade version is pretty rare. I love how comprehensive your arcade game videos are, so if you ever get a 2049 in, it would be awesome of you made a video of it.

The 2049 at my bowling alley had the same issue with the brake lights. Slows ya down just a touch. Or at least it made me think it did. A must fix.

Yo! I found a Rush 2049 Cabinet near me and its working good! Some things like they keypad isn't working and buttons occasionally freaking out but I can still play it fine! The physics remind me of Assetto Corsa, All the way to the felling of the cars when you can easily spin out if you shake the car so much and heal down downshift to engine break with the Clutch/Manual. Such a shame that this game didn't get a modern re-release yet...

I own 2 of this cabs, funny thing, while I had them working at location, there was some dude or gal , never saw who it was, that has the best lap records on the machines, I always sat with the coin door open giving some free credits but never was able to come close to his record, there’s a way to play the machines online through Lan tunneling =)

Love these games; I know some of the devs! Bummer that the last game in the series Hot Rod Rebels (successor to Rush 2049) was canceled before near completion. I know some people that are trying to track down the only known cabinet. Hot Rod Rebels runs on x86 hardware which would make porting the game (and 2049) really easy. Bummer we haven't gotten it yet!

I remember playing either the first San Francisco Rush or Rush the Rock at an arcade at Rivercenter mall in San Antonio Tx in 2004-2006 ish when I was a kid They also had Cruis’n Exotica and Ferrari F355 Challenge I can’t remember what arcade it was, it closed in about 2006 I think

The only 90s racing games I still see in arcades are Daytona USA and Hydro Thunder those games are awesome but it’s sad that you don’t see SF Rush or the Cruis’n series that often anymore and I haven’t seen California Speed anywhere since 2005. I would like to think that in a few years some big 90s racing arcade revival will happen and we’ll start seeing them again but given the current circumstances that probably won’t happen.

Also from what I remember the 90s era racing games slowly started vanishing during 2006 and there were more Fast and Furious and newer Outrun type games as well as one of the Wangan Midnight games (forget which one) I didn’t see as many Cruis’n or San Francisco Rush type games the last time I played Cruis’n world was in 2017 but that was the first time I had seen one in 11 years. I really miss the 00s.

Rush was developed by midway. Atari distributed Rush for the arcade. The home versions have the midway logo instead of the Atari logo. Only the arcade version has the Atari logo.

Hi I'm a retro video game collector and I found in a n64 controller box a poster for a N64 port of this game. I don't know much about it, and my research on it shows a N64 port was never made, but I was hoping someone who knows about it would tell me exactly what I found and If it is nothing or not. It says "coming fall 1998 for N64!" On it if that helps. Thanks in advance.

@@Jasons_Arcade_PLUS I never heard anything. I ended up sending my monitor out to be worked on (beyond my capabilities). I did repair the steering/driver board, which fixed the steering wheel issue.

@@joewilliams5283 Glad to hear you were able to get your cab repaired. I was told I need to replace the motor that gives the resistance as you’re making turns. Is that what you replaced, or something completely different?

@@Jasons_Arcade_PLUS I repaired the board that drives that motor. I lost all resistance in the steering, so I replaced the two transistors that attach to the heat sync, and the four 100uf 63v caps on the steering/driver (the board to the left as you're looking in the back of the cabinet).

My game forza 3 has an option for automatic braking. Automatic braking is ok for a beginner but a skilled player like me will turn it off. Most games don't have automatic braking. Ferrari F355 challenge had automatic braking available when using an automatic transmission. I never liked automatic braking. I've always used the brake pedal to slow down. On my game forza 3 if you don't use the brake, you are not going to be able to take the turns properly because forza 3 is a simulation racing game.

Hey Joe since you own the game, maybe you can answer this for me. Just picked my RTR up and when its in attract mode, if you steer the wheel either way and let go, the game centers the steering wheel and slight force feedback is felt when turning the wheel. At least that is what mine does, is that normal?

Yes that's normal, the wheel will actually correct itself in attract mode, you'll see it moving.
