I just skim read the Valencia Bikeway Implementation Project final report from February 2019. A traditional bike lane was originally considered. What's crazy to me is (as best I can tell), the SFMTA budgeted FOURTEEN MILLION in its 2019-2023 Capital Improvements Plan for the Valencia Bikeway Improvements project that led to the current center bike lane (that's now going to be replaced with a more traditional bike lane). Seems like a lot for a construction project that's being ripped out a few years later!

Many bicyclists approaching a red light have no regards to pedestrians who are crossing the street with a walk signal by running a red light and plowing in-between pedestrians in a crosswalk, which I've witnessed too many times in San Francisco and Sacramento. As for Valencia Street, I think re-instating the 26 Valencia bus line would make more sense after removing those awkward bike-only lanes.

If I'm cycling straight through Valencia I have no issue and prefer it, but yeah making turns I can see it being confusing and a headache. I also didn't like the old way because people double park on Valencia so much, mostly for food pickup/doordash. For the record I both drive and bike.

Yup, can't count how many times as a pedestrian on the sidewalk have to yield to the cyclists in order not to get hit. Just like the guy on bike said that he doesn't like the bicycle traffic lights!

⁠@@cory5197contrary to popular belief the bike lanes do work in fact they work so well they look empty. I took up cycling after covid and honestly you’ll be shocked how many folks hit the road like that. I get it’s frustrating when cyclists do that but it goes both ways🤷‍♂️ cars be double parked in the bike lane cars turn with out batting an eye at you. The only difference being you’re in a vehicle capable of killing me at any second🤷‍♂️😂 I also drive so I know how it is just take em streets with hills😉 as a cyclist tho Valencia was a horrible project😂

The thing that gets me is that our already limited parking spaces were taken to create some of these bike lanes just for the majority of the bike riders to use the sidewalk because the intense traffic is too dangerous to ride on the street.

Do you want to see a monumental waste of money for bike lanes? Check out New York City and it’s in the Flatiron district, especially on Broadway. Today’s bike riders are a bunch of morons. They’re not paying attention, and many of them are looking at their cell phone while they are writing. One dork almost hit me with his bike and had the nerve to say I need to watch where I’m walking but he was looking at his phone while he was riding.

Bikers can take their own advice. WALK or public transportation. I was supportive of them until they closed UGH. I have to drive to work outside of the city to make living. I settled down here to support elderly parents. I nearly died taking a public transportation from a crazy drug addict. Thank you for your support. Will not donate to the Bike Coalition.
