I thought about it. I'll stick with it, but the reasoning to do it evolves into more interest in telling a story. Photography isn't always the point anymore for me. That is until I get inspired again. New video coming soon!

My first ”real” camera was the FM2. I had dreamt of a Nikon since a child, let myself be carried away by the ads in National Geographic my dad subscribed to, inspiered by my fathers interest in photography... he allways had a camera by his side. I still got my trusted FM2 and all the lenses I once used. Not used and neglected for many years now it holds a special place in my heart. I will pick it up again and discover that feeling again, ’cause I don’t know, but that special feeling is somehow lost today with my Olympus that I now use - inspiered to use by the memory of that FM2 that got me into photogtaphy... I’ll do that. I’ll pick it up again.

This reminded me of my own travels to San Francisco in 1996 with an FM2 and in 2000 with an FE2. On the second trip my then girlfriend and now wife was at my side and we also took the trip on the coast from San Diego up to San Francisco. It was like a dream and the cameras with loaded with slide-film were part of that wonderful time. The FE2 is still in my bag today. Thanks for bringing back those fond memories. 🎉

It's good to have you back, Danny. I stumbled upon your channel after the hiatus started (my first was the Mamiya 7 review, I think) and your videos have been great, competently filmed, with excellent music and storytelling and flow second to none, but what really made them stand out was personal touch. Today it might be far from that humorous vibe of yesterday, but it's still very much present. The change might not be positive, but who said it should be. It's good to have you back, Danny. Thank you.

I really enjoyed this video. Honestly, I've seen plenty of reviews...and I have used both of these cameras personally. But the reason I liked the video was the human element. And I have asked myself some of those questions before also.

Enjoyable video. As someone who has set their film cameras down off and on over the last few years, your video has confirmed many of the things I have felt and said to myself over the years. I agree that the point is the process, even though I have been turned off to it by how ubiquitous picture taking has become since the advent of the smartphone. Yet when I do use one of my film cameras or make a print in the darkroom, I realize what it is all about and the analog process is still very special. I have quit the whole street photography thing though. It just creeps me out to do it. I do enjoy taking pictures of people, but not in that street photography way anymore. These days it's landscapes, macro and pets . Thanks again for the enjoyable video.

I'm with you man. I found myself in a similar place last year sometime. I went big and slow at first, with 4x5 and 6x7. I wanted the time, the calculation to provoke something. Not sure what exactly... Then I downsized to the smallest most efficient camera I could find- olympus xa. Almost 0 premeditation, and all flow. I think it fits better. We'll see. I enjoy your video work! Keep fighting the good fight!

It's funny cos I feel exactly the same way about "people photography" ... I just think it's socially awkward and I don't seem to find a way to overcome it. Anyway, some photographers do say all they have to do is to give people a smile and then it's all good for both sides ... Not sure how it could be so easy tho. Very good video btw! Thanks for sharing

What an interesting and enjoyable video! BTW: the FM2 dot thing. O lit up only = correct exposure / O+ means over exposure by 1/5 to 1 stop / + only means overexposure by more than one stop, the same goes for underexposure. Really, if you keep it at the O or O+ that's fine. Overexposing by one stop is nothing for film and generally desirable...much more so than underexposing.

I just bought an F3 HP a few weeks back on a whim...and I do notice the shutter speed/aperture is very difficult to see in the viewfinder. I just use a good external light meter, and adjust accordingly. I'm also in Texas and use The Darkroom for all of my film processing (35mm and 120).

The plus/minus thing is interesting. My older FM (not FM2) shows a dot next to a plus or minus or circle (correct), but if it is e.g. a little over it shows dots both next to the circle and the plus. Or maybe you would prefer the even older pointer system.

At 1:25 the Prism is not locked into position ! Having many Nikon SLRs i should tell that a comparison between different models will not be valid as they are built for different purpose. F3 is a Pro camera with a HUGE system to customize it. with FM2n You take your eyes, some roles of film and climb Himalaya , you get down with pictures... About the matter with the meter.... Have you tried ever the Nikon FE or FE2 ???? These two are perfect but battery depended...
@DannyPops
@DannyPops 7 жыл бұрын
I know, it was too late to reshoot on some shots where I hadn't locked it back on. It's true they were made for different echelons of photography work, however in nowadays context they are an interesting comparison for nikon interested film shooters.

So they paid top dollar for two pristine copies of each and didn't put the viewfinder correctly on. ;-P F3 all the way. Speeds above 1000 is very rarely useful. And will result in a more fragile shutter. Flash sync above 60 needs an way too powerful flash to make sense.
