This doesn't cause more traffic. Chances are, what used to be here is a parking lane, so it's actually beneficial to cars because now there aren't people blocking everyone backing into a space, although that's pointless because average speeds on downtown streets can be less than 10 miles per hour due to all of the red lights

The main boondoggle are the bus stops that are in the main traffic lane. They used to be able to pull off to the right allowing traffic around them. The main problem for the residents is backing out of their driveways. Nearly impossible if a car is parked at the curb close to the driveway.
