I name I love that I don’t see enough sharks fans talking about really is Bransegg-Nygard The sharks are currently lacking some really good RW prospects, with a lot of great future LWers, Brandseg-Nygard fits the Mike Grier future plan perfectly. A big two way forward who can do it all, and has a sneakily underrated shot as well, he is such a low risk high reward player and will perfectly slot into a position the sharks will need. He’s also one of those players you’d absolutely love to have on a playoff team, really hoping they snag him!

Cole Eiserman or Carter Yakemchuk in that order if they're still available at 14. Though, I wish we could somehow get Buium too. I would be weary of drafting someone who has had injury problems, sorry Jiricek.

Hope they trade up. Chance to get Celerbini and another top 10 player.

I'm a fan of Cole Hutson. Kid's gonna be the next Makar. But, I do like Yakemchuk's size. Our D definitely could use some beefiness, but I've been loving Hutson's playmaking ability.

I think Ottawa not having a first round pick next year makes it possible to do business with them at 7. Especially if a F run happens like in the top 5, that Ottawa pick might be worth overypaying if draft fell like that.

I really think/hope GMMG is going to trade this pick and 33 to move into the top ten. I think guys like Buium or Dickinson are too good to not try. But if we don’t do that I really hope we get one of Yakemchuk or MBN. I think those two fit exactly what we are trying to add to the team. Eiserman would be great too but I am still worried about him developing a complete game. Also love the channel, keep up the good work!!

Hey Professor, Thanks for the overview. I really don't know anything about the prospects in this years draft class so thank you. I am curious if you will do another video looking at what might become of those two second round picks potentially? Thanks again man. Pete Clovis, CA

I am considering doing one for the 33rd overall pick since it is pretty high up, haven’t decided that yet though
@jonmendelson11042 ай бұрын
At 33 if he's still there I'd look at defensemen like Aron Kiviharju, Henry Mews, Alfons Freij, Charlie Elick, and EJ Emery. Teddy Stiga might've climbed out of their reach but I'd look at him or Cole Beaudoin. At 42 I'd sprint up to the podium for any of the above players but I'd think about Luke Misa, John Mustard, or Dominik Badinka. I don't have a ton of names for later but if a little guy like Alexander Zetterberg or Justin Poirier are available at 85 I might take a shot at them (and absolutely if they're available at 116). Otherwise in the third round is where I'd think about goalies. Carter George and Ryerson Leenders are probably the top 2 goalies in the draft and they're probably 3rd round, though I could see them getting into the end of the 2nd if a team drafts for need. There's also Ilya Nabokov (no relation) who I expect will be taken in the 4th or 5th round and you can't go wrong with a goalie named Nabokov.

@@jonmendelson1104 Thanks Jon for the insight. We desperately need talent at virtually every position but, for me right now I think after Celebrini we are hurting at the defensive position so if we can find a prospect at 14 who is at least a solid second pairing defensemen when they come of age that would be absolutely huge.

Im about 75% sure Grier will trade into the top 10. He has to go hard in this draft with so many in the farm ready to go to the Sharks in addition to the young buck, Celebrini.
@professorhockey2 ай бұрын
Hopefully someone in the top 10 is willing to play ball then
@derapalum66922 ай бұрын
@@professorhockey Yeah it is difficult at this point. Who would be ready to trade down. I feel it would be "we want something now" team and the only potentials are New Jersey, maybe Ottawa and maybe maybe Utah. And what would be the lucrative tradeaway from San Jose.

Cole Hutson is another interesting defenseman. Projected to go in the 20s…Sharks could reach for him with the 14th or hope that he falls to #33. If Eiserman is available they totally need to grab him though. I haven’t heard anything negative about his character like Connelly. If he’s a good kid, those areas of his game should develop as he matures.
@SharksOregon2 ай бұрын
I’d consider trading down for Hutson too if there’s no one falling at 14th, definitely would prefer that over say greentree

Haven’t been this excited in awhile! Professor, do you think Will Smith joins the squad next season?
@professorhockey2 ай бұрын
Honestly I have no clue. It really could go either way at this point. If I had to guess, I’d say no right now, but who knows
@tylera862 ай бұрын
I wonder if you can package your 14th overall and 42nd overall picks for Montreal or Columbus? Both have solid defensive prospects , I imagine they would do well to snag a solid forward like Eiserman or Connelly and we could target Silayev or Levshunov. If we keep our picks I’m a fan of either Yakemchuk or Jiricek.
@alecvincent76092 ай бұрын
So you're suggesting picks 14 + 42 for picks 4/5 ? Lmfao Montreal and Colombus are hanging the phone instantly
@SharksOregon2 ай бұрын
True… maybe for 9th or 10th if there’s someone who is falling (Buium maybe🤞)
@CLew92 ай бұрын
Sharks would likely need to trade the 14, 33, and 42 minimum to trade up that high unfortunately
@SharksOregon2 ай бұрын
@@CLew9 I could see Calgary doing 9 for 14 and 33 if Tij is off the board, as I hear they could be interested in Sennecke…. However I could also see trading down from 14 and picking up Cole Hudson
@professorhockey2 ай бұрын
We have an interesting comparison from a couple years back when the coyotes traded up to 11 with the Sharks from 27, it costed them 34 and 45 to get it done. I can’t imagine the Sharks have to give up both 33 and 42 to go up to something like 9 considering the receiving team would still have a very good pick at 14.
@stevep55662 ай бұрын
Sharks don't need a goaltender imo maybe a backup but Blackwood is good enough
@steviep30792 ай бұрын
My hope is that Zeev can drop or we trade up to get him. Locked on Sharks mentioned he and Smith are friends, I assume from the USA hockey program. I find this unlikely but if Grier can pull it off ill be impressed!

Just not Jiricek for me. Dude's been hurt a lot and when he wasn't he really didn't produce anything. I really don't see why he's ranked that high.
@otuaisfelker3982 ай бұрын
The production may be low because he played already among men. Not many of drafts eligible guys do.

His offense is a question mark but he is a pitbull on defense. Very nasty.

Great show! I say trade the picks for Sharks targeted #2 if they have a chance of getting.
@donganem81352 ай бұрын
Not sure I see why you say the Sharks #1 need is for a goalie. Blackwood is no Hasek, but he's certainly serviceable and stole a few games for them last season - or at least kept them in contention in them. They have much more need for elite - or even competent- defensemen... Really, last year it was so painful watching them turn pucks over while failing to break our cleanly from their own D zone (not to mention the anemic quarterbacking on the power play).. While they are addressing their need for top 6 forwards in the draft (Celebrini, Smith, Musty, Eklund) they also need to shore up their bottom six forwards with folks who can score and also kill penalties. The latter needs might best be solved by signing role players from the UFA list with the cap space they now have - but in any case, I think they need these types of players way more than they need a goalie.
@professorhockey2 ай бұрын
I agree with the sentiment here, like I said in the video, I do think the Sharks really need an elite defenseman and they should absolutely go for that in this upcoming draft. My thought process is more so based on how difficult it is to find a good goaltender in today’s NHL. Blackwood has indeed been serviceable, but if I look 3 years into the future, can I really see Blackwood being the goalie to take the Sharks through the playoffs? I’m not so sure about that. There are teams out there who have been searching years, decades even, for a long term franchise goalie like a Nabokov or a Lundqvist and yet have never found one because of how few and far between they are. I won’t say elite defensemen grow on trees, but there are usually a couple in each draft and most teams in the league have a guy who could be considered a top pairing dman, even if not quite at the level of Makar or Hughes. You are right though that the biggest issue for the Sharks this past season was on the backend. Therefore, in the short-term, defense is a huge priority, but I think in the long term, finding a good goalie is a very important and difficult task.
@donganem81352 ай бұрын
@@professorhockey Agree...Blackwood isn't the goalie for their distant playoff runs, but he will serve ably in the interim while they attend to more crucial needs
