Visited in 2005 with my wife. Very interesting, historic place. I was born in SoCal but have lived in the Midwest for over 40 years. I miss my birthplace.

@uber, yes it is. It's a small town/city, and everything you need (grocery stores, banks, drugstores/pharmacies, pizza places, restaurants, movie theatres etc) is within walking distance. I grew up near the historical part of town, near the train station and basilica and the Mission. My folks still live there, and I visit every so often when I can, and man, the town seems so tiny but it's great! I'm glad my folks settled there and gave us a fantastic upbringing there.

The only thing that bugs me now is that Verdugo Street (where the depot and the movie theatre are located) is now almost all bars. Alls you see is drunk people on Friday and Saturday nights. It used to be that the Swallows Inn was the only place in town where you could grab a cold one. Guess the town needs the liquor tax revenue lol
