I haven’t seen anyone else using the Asian 7750 movement, only Sugess & Vakis Rigas. It’s a shame so many they don’t use the clone 7750 more often. They’ve got 2 different sundial layouts to choose from. They’ve even made a Seiko Bullhead with the ST19, the subdials at 12 o’clock & 6 o’clock as 30 minute chronograph counter & small seconds. If they used the clone 7750 movement, they could’ve made an almost 1:1 homage of the Seiko Bullhead, with 30 minute & 12 hour chronograph counter subdials at 9 & 3 o’clock with day/date at 6 o’clock.

Got this watch recently, I like when San Martin do their own design... even if it is a bit homagesque. The watch is super solid, the bezel has no play at all and it works at 0 seconds gain/loss. The bracelet is also the usual SM quality. The crown issue is a shame, because this would have otherwise been a perfect watch.

I really liked this when I first saw it, it looks exceptional, very good idea from SM. The seconds hand should be fixable, ofc it should not happen but what can you do. If it was like 250$ it would have been a fantastic watch but at 350+taxes it's way too expensive, especially with Sugess and their offerings.

impressive detailed review of a confused or should that be confusing watch. Neither one thing or another and at that price with that movement. Waiting for the 38 mill Seagull 1963 with green panda dial to arrive for that interesting vintage chronograph look

Hand-wound movements cannot have a screw-down crown. This is a basic rule of watchmaking and case design that should be adhered to regardless of whatever "feedback" a company receives.

I think I'd personally give this a miss, for one its the size and for two I just don't think it works as a chronograph. Something just doesn't sit right with me. Shame about the issues as well and I agree, the price point is a touch much.

Loose hands must be a ,manufacturer responsibility. That big plastic shipping case really should provide enough protection in transit so what's going on? And a loose hand makes a complete mockery of any timing accuracy/reliability.

Screw down crown is a pretty big fail. the watch can still retain 100m resistance without the screw down crown.

I bought an Alpha Daytona after watching your Sugess Daytona vid It has the 3 subdial ST1903 version of the ST1901 movement in this vid. The reasons I went the Alpha Daytona are many. Word Alpha on the dial is far less nauseating than the plegmatic Sugess - YUK. The Alpha Daytona is idiosyncratic - apparently. They say the real Daytona was a bit cheap and nasty for a Rolex too. Re the Alpha reviewers find themselves wanting to wear it even though it has many faults. It has the Seagull ST1903, a display caseback and is a retro homage rather than a current homage. The size is small, the bracelet rattly and it has a acrylic crystal that scratches easily. The one I chose is the red dial version with the stainless etched bezel. Oh yeah the price 160 or 155 Euro IIRC around that anyhow. I havent got it yet but I look forward to my cheap but good clone. People seem to really like the Alpha so we'll see.

I got it. I wear it occasionally. I put it on a black Rally leather band that has holes, red backing and red lining the holes. It matches with the red dial and looks the part. I really really like it. It is a great deal of fun. In fact the bracelet is actually good but I took it off straight away because I wanted the Rally band on it and I can't take it off it looks so good. The rattly bracelet is well done - actually the whole thing is makes me smile LOL. I love it.

Personally I think the fake bluing and overall movement finishing looks cheap, particularly compared to any nicer auto Chrono movements, so the solid back doesn’t bother me. Otherwise it looks somewhat “entry level”

@@Mr1121628 OK, you bring the movement to a monastery in the Alps and the monks start polishing every component with wooden sticks for 3 months. The movement is suddenly 10.000 dollar. Reassamble, put a see through case back on it and become a happy man. I like it as it is and will spend the extra 10.000 dollar on a second hand Mercedes E Class convertible....OK?

This is a phenomenal watch. Why would it be considered a fail ? The watch has it’s shortcomings - and I also think the use of the 7750 clone would benefit the watch, but there are plenty of people who like the Seagull ST19 movement. San Martin should use a regular crown, instead of a screw down crown and the problem is solved. all you needs to do is wind it 15 times before screwing it in. That will ensure a water tight seal, and you won’t have to wait for the movement to unwind. It’s really not a big deal, and it certainly isn’t a deal breaker.

The Timegrapher screen looked a bit of a mess. I’d expect better but then I have always suspected that San Martin don’t have much better qc than most other cheap Chinese brands. Makes me wonder if it really is getting the beat error correct with all those reading dots all over the place. Is it a bit worse than just an unregulated movement and actually a dirty or poorly lubricated movement?

I have two San Martin watches and they are superb. I feel San Martin made a mistake with this watch easily redone. A proper tachymeter scale is the right fix. This isn't a dive watch. It's like going to a bar and picking up a very attractive woman and finding out she isn't one. (Unless that is your taste, whereby the rotating bezel is dandy).

I don’t think that delivery caused the loose minute hand, that looks like poor QC that seems to be happening more and more often. I used to like San Martin but now I wouldn’t touch them because of QC issues that are becoming more frequent. I can’t remember which AliExpress seller it was and I can’t remember the exact wording, but they put a note at the bottom of the description stating that it was normal to expect some QC issues and that if you complained they would decide if the problem was bad enough, and if you can’t accept minor QC issues then it might not be worthwhile ordering from them. May be San Martin have got big enough to not care about QC issues, or some sellers are buying SM watches very cheaply with known QC issues and selling them on for more profit. Whatever the reason, I won’t be buying them!

Quality control is excellent with San Martin watches. I’ve heard no complaints. Watches do get damaged in shipping, and I’m certain that is the case with the minute hand, and not a fault of the factory. I own several San Martin watches, including the 62mas Chronograph, and the quality is very impressive. I’ve had no issues with it whatsoever. Regards,

Critical error. Even had the movement had a clutch, which this doesn't, you (watch manufacturer) cannot combine a manual-wind with a screw-down crown. It's simply, on a daily basis, impractical. A non-starter scale error.
