Did you know Elisa before this listening? She start her career singing in english and her first album, 25 years ago, was entirely in english. I think that one of her first singles, Labyrinth, has had quiet success abroad (not sure). She has won Sanremo in 2001, too.

Very happy you gave this a listen. Elisa's a highly successful name in Italian music and as much as I like 'Brividi', I've always preferred this slightly more. A great voice but I'm not sure the track would've fared too well at Eurovision. Maybe somewhere between 8th and 12th. Anyway, she did actually win Sanremo in 2001 with 'Luce (Tramonti A Nord Est)', so maybe listen to that some time too.

Thank you fir reacting to this song, as we requested :) Elisa is an amazing artist, I am sure you will fall in love with her. Half of her songs are in english so I guess you can enjoy her even more, and of course react ;) the lyric of this song is very very simple but at the same time so passional and straightforward. It talks about a long-time searching for the person she is speaking to. in this trip she is confused and distracted by the world but in the end she understands that maybe that person ('or maybe you are' is the translation of 'o forse sei tu') is the real forces that guided her trip. I think this song is a good example of somthing so simple that become complex. So listen to other songs from elisa (id like to list them but there are too many very worth) and also from sanremo ciao ciao by la rappresentante di lista and irama with ovunque sarai. You miss Elisa so far! She is maybe the first best female italian singer since decades of years. There is a very very large discography of Elisa. Her early 4 albums are entirely singed in english. Well, it's also a matter of taste, especially this year. Usually there are several good songs in Sanremo, but the comparisons with the winner are something to deal with, because all the songs (a bunch of songs) are first listening, don't forget. In the long Sanremo's history a lot of not winning or even low ranked (even bottom place) songs were very good and successful.

I'm sorry you didn't react to the Sanremo performance too. It's always worth listening to the Sanremo stage version (live with orchestra!), but after Brividi I'm sure you know it well! The only problem is that Rai only keeps the songs for a while and then removes them from YT. If it's not blocked in your country, try Raiplay. 😘

Did you reacted to Diodato, whan he sang Fai Rumore? (eurivision 2020) It was stunning, he was singing alone in the magnificent Arena di Verona, while Italy was crying and mourning so much deaths during the worst moment of the Covid Pandemy. Fai Rumore means make noise, I think you should read the lyrics, you will be surprised. This song was written before Covid but it was so perfect for that sad times. He sang, "... But you make noise, yes and I can’t stand this unnatural silence between you and me And I’m walking without talking with nowhere to go I’m wearing down my shoes and perhaps my shoes know where to go That I find myself in the same places again, exactly those places that I should have avoided... * Not only the song, but his performance was wonderful. We, in Italy were crying while watching him at the TV in eurovision. It was too much.

The most exciting voice in Italy is Lisa's (exactly "Lisa", not Elisa). She has been successful all over the world... just think of her original version of Oceano (Sanremo 2003) which was then clumsily covered by many others... she manages to make people go on astral journeys while awake. She was first in the charts for many weeks in France with her "Sempre"... and it reached Asia, so much so that there are covers of it even from Japan. They also imitated her in those countries, even in the look. etc. etc.

The album/compilation "Elisa Soundtrack '96-'06" recaps very well her musical golden age. It includes great pieces such as "Dancing" (final theme in the 2000 movie "A time for dancing"), "Luce" (Sanremo winner in 2001), the gospel "Swan", "Heaven out of hell", "Eppure sentire", "Labyrinth", "Una poesia anche per te", "Stay" and more. As you can see, she sings mostly in English. You will really appreciate the lyrics :)

It's not a matter of hating that style, in Italy that style does exist, it's typical and a lot of people use to listen to it, but in Sanremo they just gave it the right meaning!
