My little sister caught a small turtle in the lake near our house when we were kids. My mom went to the library and got some info and then to the flea market for some advice. Two days later it was explained to my sister that, though it looked small, it was not a "baby" and that it was a wild turtle that needed to live in the lake to survive and grow up big and strong. For about a year every turtle she saw was "Daisy." Importantly though my mom taught us both about wild animals(mostly not reptiles as that was not her forte)and their behaviors and their habitats leading to a life-long love and RESPECT of animals. My family went to Gatorland and the Zoos often.

Chris, thank you for attempting to educate people about alligators. I get so frustrated with the habitat destruction that is causing the conflicts between humans and animals. We have the same problem near the Smoky Mountains, but with bears. There have been over 25 bears euthanized this year because of human interactions. Thank you for trying to save Larry. You and Gabby have hearts of gold. Btw, we need to get Gabby in proper footwear. 😂 I hope you two have a wonderful Christmas. It's amazing how far Ocala's come these past months. From a sickly, scared little guy, to a rambunctious, healthy dog with such a lovely family and pack. I’ve had a very very busy day preparing for Christmas sewing for hours cleaning up last-minute shopping for groceries. I poured a glass of wine put KZbin on my TV and I am watching gator Chris doing a Vlog about the sanctuary, which is beautiful. I have learned so much about so many animals, especially gators and crocs living here in Florida. We do have to try to coexist with gatorsand I’ve learned to see them as a more beautiful creature and less of a menacing creature and that’s what you have done.

I'm so ... angry? Mad? Frustrated? Relieved? And every other emotion i am capable of gelling feeling about this poor turtle... 🐢 How on earth could someone treat an animal the way his former wardens did? I wish they could be arrested and sent to prison. Thank you for helping to save his life.

Chris and Gabby you are SO APPRECIATED. THANK YOU for ALL you do for the animals you have rescued. You two have EVERY right to share your frustration, your anger, your opinion on here sbout people taking in animals and being ignorant about it, and causing the animal greater harm taking it from its habitat. Poor Larry, so sad, I pray he can get the proper drugs and enough UV ray, that his shell will get harder. It ibviously wont get domed shaped like it should be.. i am concerned that his little organs are being smushed. Poor thing looks like a pancake. I feel how you worded what you wanted to relay was polite, you are trying not to shame people, but at the same time when did it dawn on this person to release the turtle to you guys? That speaks to ANYONE ELSE out there. To let animals be in wild. Do not take on animals you are not going to commit to long term. I get things happen and peoples lives take an unexpected turn and they may have to rejome an animal, that is fine but do it the right way. Look for s wildlife rehab or s Sanctuary. Do not just go let the animal back into the wild. Because bkuntly put, you might as well kill it yourself bacsuse they will die being s captive animal now in the wild. BE SMART PEOPLE 🙏

God I understand so personally about what you guys said with starting to feel animosity towards people. I rescue bettas from people who kept them in vases and bottles and bowls. Beardies kept in plastic containers again with zero UV and improper diet with horrible MBD. And to see the amount of improvement they show when given the most basic care infuriates me. It is so preventable, but it doesn’t happen because people think of themselves and what they want over the needs of the animal

I've done rescue for years and you do have many good people too. Focus on the good because the bad will make you angry and bitter. it never changes sadly. To try and change the laws is tough or get them to protect animals.

I can’t believe people tell you guys to have more patience. Honestly, how can you have any patience at all with this ignorance. It upsets me with Larry because it took these people this long not to mention they took a wild animal/reptile from its home and then didn’t even research how to properly care for it. I don’t understand the stupidity of the human race. I commend you both for doing this and any other rescue, I would never be able to handle stuff like that. Seeing poor Ocala when you first found him broke my heart 😭 thank you for doing this and making sure they all feel live as comfortably as possible! On a lighter note, Jellybean is so funny. So very glad your turtle is doing better.🐢💚🐢 . Where my family was originally from we never kept wild animals as pets. Most of the area was State or Federal. We had Game Wardens that would drive through to make sure there was no unlawful deer or bear hunting. Even jump people for parking next to the railroad. You had to keep up with hunting licenses. Game Wardens was the next best thing as The Police. We never caught owls, bear, Mountain Lion, Fawn or deer , etc or bob cats. They usually would be given to the warden and he would place animals in huge farms or parks where people like yourselves could take care of them. That was the right way, but laws was broken. We always was taught to leave wild animals a lone. Of course deer and Turkey would come in to eat apples off the many trees and Turkey come for bugs in grass. No one ever hunted inside the yard in our family. Not to say others would set at times and hunt from their front porch. When the warden wasn't around. I see now why Gabby needs to wear better shoes!!!😜☺️😜

I so appreciate it people that like you guys who are engaged in rescue/rehab are doing their best to educate the public about the problems with human intervention with wildlife. I wish people paid attention and learned that A. ‘Rescuing” an animal when it actually doesn’t need human intervention is often harmful to the animal’s health, and can in fact lead to their death. B. If you think an animal actually does need your help, go out on line, find a wildlife rehabber in your area and double check with the rehabber on what steps you should take (or should NOT take,) as a simple thing like trying to feed the injured/sick animal could be more harmful than simply keeping them in a quiet dark place with no food/water until the animal can go to an appropriate rehabber/rehab facility. C. Young wildlife may look cute, but most people do not have the means, knowledge or ability to properly care for young wildlife in such a way that it doesn’t human imprint or eat a diet that is actually bad for it’s health, etc. Also those cute wild animals are in fact wild, and as they grow can become hard to handle and dangerous, and just letting them go back into the wild when their natural inclinations become hard to manage or scary can often lead to their deaths. I wish people would get it that wild animals just don’t make good pets.

Of course we live in the land of Dixie!! Country, no gators or crocs. In fact we probably would of had to travel far for exotic animals. Snakes a plenty but that was Spring and Summer, Fall. Nobody enjoyed snakes. Of course we had rattle snakes and Copperheads mostly, timber rattlers. 😬 Not good. We had large yard to take care of. We even chopped our wood for heat and used coal. I guess I had a parakeet, gerbil, iguana, ferret. Two little baby lap dogs.

As sad and depressing as it is to know that so many reptiles are kept poorly, at the same time, it's INSANE to see a turtle in such bad shape survive for 15 YEARS! Imagine yourself having to live with a squishy ribcage... probably not going to end well. Let's just hope Larry makes it and at least recovers to a point where he is fine without permanent medical care.

I feel like the people who turn animals in to rehabbers should pay for the care that they screwed up. It's not fair to everybody but them. Here's my screw up, pay for the care, THANKS!! That's crazy to me that people would even expect others to do that. Even if you can't afford all the expenses they should , at least, contribute something, even if it's just $5.

However people who won’t spend money on their pets in the first place would probably just release or dispose of them if people like ❤Chris and gabby ❤didn’t exist. It’s sad that humans don’t think before purchasing in the first place. I would have tons of animals but I don’t because of affording them and also the time to commit to them.
