I like Kinetic sand (isn't cheap, but 1-2 bag would fill up one of those), I think it has a slightly vinegary smell and requires you to wash your hands afterwards. I'm on the spectrum and sort of use at as calming "therapy" for myself ,because I have trouble sleeping. Another thing is playing with minatures--came up with the idea of putting these together...I dislike the feel of dry sand, but like wet sand. It's also easy on the floor.

I started out using salt, frankly, because it was cheap--only $6 for a HUGE bag at Costco that was more than enough to fill my tray. It's allergy-friendly (although if you had a cut on your hand it might be bad). Kind of dusty though, at least moreso than the jurrassic sand I got later. Harmless if they put it in their mouth. Makes a nice winter scene. Easy to clean up because it dissolves in water so sponges up easily. Only one kid guessed what it was.

I like the idea of having different types of sand alternatives. I would say though that for kiddos in your practice who may have food insecurities, you may want to be mindful of that having food to play with may be very triggering. However, this is where it's crucial to know your clients.

I am training in counseling right now and I am really drawn to sandtray therapy. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you. I'm wondering about aquarium gravel which is heavy, but pretty cheap and can be purchased in different colours. Also Samurai soil - tiny black beads for use in aquatic terrariums.

I use aquarium gravel with surprising success! People either love it or avoid it

I have heard that it MUST be sand (for it to work). Its something to do with a persons deep connection to sand (as a building block). I'm wondering how effective all these alternatives would be (if compared to sand).

I am so excited that I came across this video. I work with children and adults, and some clients have not wanted to touch the sand, more so adults than children over the years. When you say confetti, what specifically are you referring to? Is it paper confetti, from the sound it made I am thinking it must be more robust? Thank you!

paper and foam pieces and there are some beads mixed in as well.

Where did you get the trays? They are perfect in size and they have lids.

What kind are and where did you get the containers with lids in the video? I had some from the Dollar Tree but they no longer have them.
