I love watching your fossil preparation videos. I would love to watch a whole beginning to end prep. No cuts. Just beginning to end. They would be super long and you'd have to set the camera up on a stand but it would be so relaxing to watch

I don’t have a particular type of fossil I’d like to see prepared, as they are all interesting. But it would be nice to see all the various stages and methods of prep, including stabilization if needed, repair/restoration, the final finishing touches, etc. Maybe a rundown of all the shop tools and materials, and when/how each is used?

How beautiful!! When I was a child, we still had open coal fires in the house. One day I found a piece of coal with a stunning pyrite fern inside it. For the next few weeks I insisted on cracking open each piece of coal we had before it went in the fire, I drove my Mum nuts and she banned me eventually 😂. I don't remember what happened to the fern, wish I still had it!

How would someone learn to find and prepare fossils like how you and your dad does?

@sandramays7952 жыл бұрын
@@swankierSpy2658 Ok, I was going to try to help you but that’s about as non-specific as you can possibly get 😂 Prep is going to vary based on the type of fossil, mineral composition, how it fossilized, condition when found, matrix it’s in, etc, etc. Finding fossils (or not), and what type, is going to have everything to do with your location. Unless you’re extremely lucky like these guys and live where things are just falling out of the cliffs, finding fossils takes an extreme amount of commitment, research, and time just to have an idea of where to start looking.
@suesmith92022 жыл бұрын
O and can you do that on sand stone

I don't know about micron size. I would think any company that sells sand blasting related medium would have it. I used to clean dentures. The walnut cleaned calculus ( hard mineral ) from the dentures without any damage to the acrylic. Happy finding and💜 love from America!
