In this video, I show you how to sand cast a simple ring band in silver. I hope you enjoy the video and have a go at making something yourself!
Sand casting is an ancient jewellery making technique, it's first recorded use is 3200 BC in Mesopotamia. This technique is great for basic shapes such as simple pendants, signet rings, ring bands and cast in place. More complex designs will be better suited to either being cast in two halves and soldered together or being sent off to the casters.
Sand casting leaves these incredibly organic textures that you can either remove with a file or incorporate and make the most of within your design.
You can complete this project at home...with the right equipment : )
