Technically yes but I'd get the valves and do it all at once if at all possible. The pool has to be drained below the skimmer level to add the valves. Hope that helps!

Excellent video, except the part when you're attaching the 2" hoses with clamps. The Intex hose ends are pretty solid, maybe ⅛" or more. There's no flexibility or give on the hose end...something is going to break.

Nope. Just down below the skimmer and return. I'd recommend putting some valves in as well so that if you have to change a part or anything you won't have to drain it down again. Thanks for watching!

12" will do just fine. Rule of thumb is 1 square foot of sand per 10000 gallons and you pool is 5-6k. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

May i ask where did you use the Vacuum adapter? i didnt see where it goes..

Goes inside the skimmer. Helps to take the float door off but it can be done with it on there. Seals to a lip in there so a vacuum can be attached to the tube on top of it. Hope that helps!

Do you cycle your pump or leave it run continuously 24/7? We have a 22'x48" Summer Waves with the standard skimmer type filter pump and we leave it run 24/7. No problems yet except the constant changing of filters and the high cost of filters, (you can only stand at the kitchen sink and clean them with a tooth brush only so many times before you have to pitch them 😄😄.)

🤣🤣🤣 that's funny! No I don't run it constantly. 4 hours a day typically. I'm cheap though and don't like to burn up the electric. The cartridges do ok for regular filtering, it when ya have to vacuum that they fall short. Thanks for watching!

I don’t want to have to buy a sand filter and pool pump if I don’t need both but after reading on google I’m seeing mixed answers... There is a link to the adapter plate in the video description. You take the existing pump out of the bottom of the skimmer housing and cover the hole with the plate. You can then get your sand filter and pump to sit on the ground and connect up your hoses and valves. You can not run the existing pump through a sand filter. It doesn't have enough power. The sand filter has a built in skimmer basket, which is good because the pools isn't very good, and in order to clean it out you have to shut the isolation valves off or water pours out. Hope that answered the question. Thanks for watching!

Whatever the make of that sand filter does it require silica #20 sand or something else? What is your opinion and review of the HTH sand you used?

Any pool filter grade sand supposedly works in it. The sand I used seems to be fine. I've heard of cloudy water return if inferior sand is used and I haven't experienced that. Overall I'm pleased with the pump and this setup with the exception of the pump not having a timer function. Thanks for watching!

@@starrlite9075 from what I remember when I sized the pump and filter 8" should work. They are an odd size though and sometimes hard to find. The bigger ones are overkill but easier to locate. Good luck with the project. You'll be happy you switched!

I wouldn't trash the filter pump that comes with it. It can be handy if ever needing smaller particles filtered or to filter algae and bypass the sand.

Need to ask a question. Do you use the skimmer pump as normal skimmer without having it connectet to electricity? And then the sand filter running normal? So the water is just running through the skimmer? Wanted to have a pump that directly sucks the water into the pump.

I took the skimmer pump out completely and pitched it. In the video description there's a link to the solid plate to seal the bottom of the skimmer. That pump staying in there is an unnecessary drag on the system. Thanks for watching!

I use a 12 inch pump. That's plenty for a smaller pool. There is usually a chart with pool sizes and pump selection somewhere in the pump information as well. Hope that helps!

That's a bit small for that big of a pool. I'd go with at least a 3000 per hour. Your pool is over 20000 gallons. Hope that helps!

It flows 2,200 gallons an hour. Frankly it's overkill for this pool, but I like overkill. I'll be putting out a video shortly that's a bit more detailed in how I set it up, what I've found works and doesn't work as well as things I wish I'd have done a little different. Stay tuned!
