So sad that the gosling didn't survive. But it was heart-warming to watch his little journey. Thanks for sharing🙂

So sad- stupid, ruthless dog owner! The Cranes were the best foster parents one can wish for the sweet gosling- and the gosling was a very, very good kid. Everything else you write is so true, we 'll now' 'll never know how the story would have ended. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this most adorable video, Cynthia!

Mart, thank you for kind words. It was certainly so sad. I was excited to watch the gosling grow up thinking it was a crane.

This makes me so angry. Why the Hell can’t people keep their dogs on leash and under control? When out hiking in the mountains people let their dogs chase the wildlife, they just don’t care. I’m very sorry because you actually got to witness this wonder of nature in person. Thank you for sharing this story with all of us. 💔

A few days later I was at another local park. There was a Red-headed Woodpecker foraging on the ground. A car pulled up, a little dog got out, and the owner urged the dog to "go get him". The dog went after the woodpecker. luckily the bird got away. I was so angry, but afraid to be confrontational . . .

:( So sorry for everyone who experienced this loss. It was going to be such a fantastic experience for you to film, and for us to watch. So many questions remain unanswered. Thank you for sharing these moments. While brief, they were very impactful.

This is truly upsetting to me. I actually went to Kensington Metropark in 2019 to see the other gosling. He ended up dying after taking a hard landing during a practice flight. That was just bad luck. This here is totally a human's fault and should never have happened..

I agree! I'm so happy to hear you saw the one in Michigan! I loved looking at those photos. I think 2 photographers (and probably many others) documented that case very well.

So sad an ending for the poor little gosling, but an interesting and fine series of videos to watch - thank you. BTW goslings that become detached from their parents very soon after birth can easily become imprinted onto another parent, even a human being, and stay close to them throughout their adolescence.

People are always complaining about loose cats taking out birds, but dogs do their fair share also. What a bummer, I too would have loved to have seen the trio go thru the rest of if the year together (or longer)!

Unfortunately, the gosling was found injured. A wildlife rescue was called and they found canine puncture wounds and a broken wing. The gosling had to be euthanized. It would have been so interesting to watch the relationship develop. It was so sad.

Wonder was it a pet dog that was not leash? Did the parent Crane try to protect it? Very interesting, but too bad we will never know

I'm not sure anyone saw it happen (except the dog owner). The gosling was found by a birder, called the rescue, and they determined it was injuries from a canine attack. But the cranes kept trying to feed their injured gosling and kept nudging it trying to make it get up . . 😢
