My mother was a 9 year old little girl who was playing with her friends in the school playground. She was found 2 days later by her father wandering outside the local hospital. She did not speak a word for months. She could not say what had happened to her. No counseling back then just pain and trauma. She lost her childhood and every friend she knew. Please remember this was a human tragedy that destroyed children. A nationalistic approach to this incident is inane, insensitive and ignorant.

I'm in that school currently and a man from the war visited us and this is wat he said " I saw a plane flying over the building wen I was eating my lunch and the staff and children waved and the Nazi pilot and he swiffeded down and dropped a couple of bombs ".

Didn't know about this until today , spoke to an old man that was there , saw the pilot , saw the plane spin horizontal to miss the steeple , turn and rise fly back and bomb the school killing his friends , he said all the kids played out in the street before that , after no kids played for months .

My grandmother was at Sandhurst School on this day digging children out with her bare hands. She lived most of her life in Ardfillan Road, Catford.

The day this happened, my mother and grand mother lived in Minard road, about 300 yards from the school. My Grandmother heard a low flying aircraft flying North. She ran into the Garden and waved at what she thought was an RAF fighter. It was an FW190 apparently carrying a 1000Ib bomb. It was lunchtime at the school, and the German pilot circled the school before dropping the bomb. My Grandfather was a policeman who subsequently arrived to dig out the children and staff. He left the police soon after having injured his back. I like to think it was him you can see in the video; but I really don’t know this.

My wife has a newsclipping ( from her grandparent's attic ) that we think may be this same bombing. Someone had written "your cousin" above a picture of a little girl Lydia Parfitt age 10 who had been rescued from the wreckage and in a hospital with a broken leg. Another little girl pictured Pamela Silmon also age 10 was among the missing. . If the names of the two little girls have any significance to anyone today, please contact my and I will send the article..

My Mother-in Law was in Rushey Green, Catford with loads of kids waiting to get on some coaches when this happened. The plane flew over so low that they could see the pilot looking down at them. The plane then looped up and turned around and flew the length of the street machine gunning the children.

Wonderful historic record. Many thanks for your work to bring this to the attention of aviation enthusiasts, and adding the credits and details.

I was at school at St Josephs Academy Blackheath and waiting \at the bus stop to catch the 108 home for lunch when 3 enemy fighter bombers single bomb suspended beneath so low they had to climb to avoid the steeple of St Margarets church with pilots faces clearly visible. These were part of the lot that shot the hands off the clock in Lewisham and attacked the Sandhurst school in Catford

Whilst Sweden considered itself neutral during ww2 it had no problem supplying Iron Ore and other materials to the Germans as well as shooting at allied planes that flew into their airspace.

It's strange to hear the real voices of the fighter pilots sound just like the parodies made by Monty Python.

Does anybody know the copyright holder of the footage showing the rescue effort at the school? I am making a short film on the event & would like to use some of this archive.

BOB, an unusual name for a Frenchman. 😂😂😂

Sandhurst Road School was not deliberately targeted. According to witnesses, the FW was in level flight @ 500 feet when the bomb was released. He could have no idea where his bomb was going. Luftwaffe pilots disliked these pointlessly risky nuisance raids and rarely ventured beyond the southern fringe of the city, before dropping their single bomb and running for the coast. Aircrew on both sides killed innocents but I don't imagine that any of them deliberately laid their sights on children.

This isn't a spoof. I did a search on Wikipedia and apparently the group of islands known as the "United Kingdom" used to be occupied by a distinctive ethnic group known as the "British". They were fiercely patriotic and were willing to die defending their way of life. I wonder what happened to them?

First off I HATE FUCKING GOOGLE WITH A DEEP PASSION !!! And I RARELY use the word 'HATE'. I would have liked to find out who that pilot was & hanged his slimy German ass as a war criminal. Churchill had a 'vengeance squad' going around killing Germans who had tortured murdered SOE & Commando operators for a few months as he knew that the Allied occupational forces were going to 'Let a lot of stuff slide' because of the Iron Curtain situation that was going to come up & because of politics....
