Sandhya Raju performing Muddugare Yashodha, a Kuchipudi item choreographed by Padma Bushan Guru Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam.
Muddugare Yashodha is a very popular keerthanam in Telugu literature, and has been the source of various interpretations. This particular version has been taught to me by my Guru Kishore Mosalikanti and has been choreographed by our late Guru Padma Bushan Guru Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. Watch the eternal and charming love between mother yashodha and young Krishna. His various deeds and antics described with adoration. The episode of Krishna's battle with the venomous 5 headed sake Kaliya is narrated with adoration and love.

For those who don't know, this performance tells the story of the childhood of Hindu deity Krishna. His mother yashoda adored him dearly. She pampered him at times and beat him at times for his antics and mischief. The last segment of this dance is about a tale from Hindu mythology. The hindu deity Krishna in his childhood fights a humongous black mutli-headed snake called Kalia Naag. After defeating it, he dances on its head. That nataraja pose done by her implies that dance only.

My suggestion is you seek practice and training from a good student of Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam ( he has produced thousands of students in his life time ) and learn this piece from them when they feel you are ready to learn it !
