At the Hanford site alone there's over 56,000,000 gallons of liquid radioactive waste. 56 million gallons... You're gonna need to bore more holes.

I get it, yes we need Nuclear power at least near term. And I’m all for that. But can’t we find a way to refine/ reuse this stuff. History shows us burying stuff just kicks the can down the road. The planet is not static. It is still evolving what looks stable today could change unexpectedly. At one time we were absolutely sure flushing waste of any type into the ocean was fine. It is so big we couldn’t have an impact. oops we were wrong. A long term surface/ near surface storage would at least give us a chance to correct an issue we predicted would never happen. As a species we have made a lot of mistakes. And who is to say some day we won’t find a way to neutralize or process this stuff. We don’t know what we don’t know. and once we stuff it in a hole it is too late to go oops, didn’t see that issue as a possibility.

If you want to public on board, you should throw a “mega” or “ultra” in front of “deep” 😅

What worries me is the lack of commitment from the speakers here. They couldn't learn these lines off by heart, they had to read them?

Invest far more research into reactor designs which can extract the vast amount of potential nuclear energy left in waste from our current, antique by comparison, reactor designs. Thereby "burning" the current amount of nuclear waste could power the US for 100 years.

Or we can just build the natrium reactor designed to use 98% of all nuclear waste. Would make far more sense.

What could go wrong ..grrrr Lets stop making the waste
@wollinger Жыл бұрын
sure.. let's use coal instead, no waste with that, right?
@gordybishop2375 Жыл бұрын
@@wollinger yes, constantly CO2 and sulfur etc. Solar wind geothermal hydro wave tidal current etc.
@wollinger Жыл бұрын
@@gordybishop2375 wooooosh. anyway, that nuclear waste is already created and needs to be dealt with. Sure, we should stop making more, but there is a type of nuclear energy that generates way, way less waste but it is not profitable for the fuel supplier.
