My garbage men are complete jerks. My black bin fell into the truck and they just crushed it and kept on going.😢
@railsandsignals92618 ай бұрын
Most of the time, they're not allowed to retrieve it due to safety concerns. The truck's packer is no joke! Were you able to call in to get a replacement can for free? Hopefully, but if not, then that's a yikes on their part.

@donaldhoward96409 ай бұрын
I was a garbage man for 18 yrs and it is common for a trash totter to some times slip out of the grasp of the grabbing mechanism. Some times because of the weight of the can because it has been loaded with heavy material, some times because the rubber belt on the inside of grabber (which automatically adjusts when grabber closes around container holding it snug in place) doesn't contract enough as grabber closes around container. It will also lose grip on a container which has developed a large crack on the barrel of the container which causes it's sides to collapse when it is grabbed and prevents it from fitting snug in the grabber. As for those drivers that dropped containers into their hoppers and just crushed them and proceeded on their way, I do not get that. When ever I had lost a container in the hopper, I merely hit the button stopping the packer before it could crush the container (there was a camera inside hopper space), shut down the unite, turned the truck off (lock out, tag out) climbed the ladder leading to the access hatch of the hopper, grabbed container by the bottom dumping any remaining waste in it and pushed it out of hopper dropping it back to the ground. Seems any services provided by the city or state which is also provided in the private sector , you find employees like that and over all responses to service issues or replacement of damaged containers, which a private sector waste service (those which are still operating) could not because of other competing waste companies that customers can go to if they are not happy with you. The waste services of the city have no fear of that, are funded by taxes regardless.
@railsandsignals92618 ай бұрын
Some haulers don't allow drivers to go into the hopper at all for "safety reasons". But yeah, they should replace the container free of charge (which most other haulers do).
@purgal52509 ай бұрын
Where I live we pay the monthly bill for trash pick up and the bins just come with the service. If the bin gets worn out, they replace it. If you switch services you have to arrange a pick up time for the empty bin. I you don't let them pick up their bin you can then be charged for the bin. That's the only time I've heard of being charged for trash bins.

I am from a different California city, and my trash can disappeared. Good thing I had surveillance cameras everywhere, and reviewing the video showed the trash man actually took my trash can with him. I called WM and asked for the driver's name so I could file a police report for "theft". WM refused to give me his name saying he just made a mistake. I wasn't letting him get away with it especially when they start telling us they would start charging us $300 for replacement trash cans. There is so much laziness, corruption and just plain dishonesty everywhere.

It’s almost like anyone of those major cracks are definitely coming from those trucks. The majority of people are just putting garbage bags maybe green stuff into their bins. They should just fess up and say the trash cans were not meant to last we gave you your first one for freereplacements are your responsibility. Maybe they could even provide some sort of tape to fix them rather than needing to replace a giant piece of plastic.
@SDTrashman8 ай бұрын
@bjdr2001, are you an engineer? Cracks in the containers don't always come from the gripers on the automated refuse vehicles. They are produced from plastic, left out in the elements. They become brittle.

The trash truck recently damaged our garage. The driver slammed the trash so hard into our garage that the trash gripper pierced a hole on our siding and then got the gripper stuck in our garage from there he violently shook the gripper loose creating more damage and then just drove away. Luckily we got it all on video. I immediate contacted the City of San Diego. They put me in touch with the claims department. Its been 4 months since I submitted a claim and we've got nothing. They are giving us the run around our garage is still damaged. We're not considering contacting the media and/or an attorney to get help.

It’s not adding up. So every year under ten years, is $7 times the remaining years out of ten. So, if you replace your can after two years, you only pay $14. But past ten years and it’s $70. Should that be reversed, or I’m I overthinking it?
