A new CA bill could require your car beep each time you speed

California could become the first state where new cars would be required to alert drivers when they're breaking the speed limit.
Senate Bill 961 would require cars to start beeping when they exceed the speed limit by at least ten miles per hour.

The cars would use GPS to compare vehicle speed with posted speed limits and beep to notify drivers when they're going too fast. New cars manufactured or sold in California by 2032 would be required to have the technology.

Technically speaking, a car’s normal driving purposes are never intended to be driven over 100mph. It’s the fact that the car’s overall ability is to be able to attain a higher speed, thus why you have up to 140 mph on many cars. This is due to better reliability for upkeep and maintenance but your overall everyday driving, especially if you’re going up hills or mountains. If a car’s manufactured maximum speed can only accelerate to 70 mph, its overall potential to increase speed, or drive up a mountain, is exceedingly more difficult. Cars can though have a limiter if needed, which CA did propose a bill on that before.

@@isiahwhite2257 I’m not entirely following that logic. My old truck has both rpm and speed limiters. I can set cruise control to 70 mph and it will shift down to maintain 70 mph going up a grade - I don’t have to get a running start to get up a hill.

@@jonniesantos Making cars that can go 120 mph or faster puts less strain on the engine at lower speeds, which improves safety and fuel economy. The top speed on any engine is at or above the recommended safe level of driver use. For example, if the top speed was 60 mph when you max out the engine, and you frequently drive on freeways at 60 mph, you'd burn up your engine very quickly. That’s why it mechanically is better for the car’s overall maintenance and reliability for it to go above normal driving speeds.

@@isiahwhite2257 Not top speed; set the limiter to 70 mph. You can still build a 400 bhp engine and it turn 1,800 rpm’s at 70 mph and it will last forever. However, most people are not going to spend (borrow) $60k for a vehicle with a limiter set to 70 mph.

My friend had one (by accident) when he got his ford fusion, so it’s possible. Crazy thing about that is that you’re stuck there in case you need to pass a slow guy on the freeway. Lol But oh well.

@@witbyt personal experience. I drive the freeways daily. the only time people observe the limit is when congestion slows everyone. in fact the DMV manual requires that you drive the same speed as everyone else, effectively requiring you to break the law if everyone is over the limit.

I think people need to file lawsuits against the state if this legislation passes and I also think people need to vote the people that are pushing this out of office there are a variety of ways to public can deal with this besides just letting these people run right over them you need a warrant to see someone's phone and I believe the same applies to put in their tracking device on someone's vehicle they're going to have to have that device to check the different areas and where the speeds are different there's no getting around it That's where you going to get into some legal issues
