More than 150 flights canceled at San Diego Airport due to heavy clouds

This is winter in San Diego. I’m a native San Diegan for over 70 years and fog is TYPICAL for this time of year. There is no perfect weather anywhere at this time of climate instability….even in San Diego. Modify holiday plans and celebrate the holidays at a different time of year. We have to change our social habits to acclimate to a new way of living in our environment. Those that choose not to change have to suffer through the consequences of weather that is extremely unpredictable and unforgiving.

Be early, no joke. I will now be 4 hours early to the airport. Lines can be so long and it gets crazy. Employees don't always tell you the right line to be in. I am grateful for even the concept that we can travel via plane at 30,000+ ft altitude, at I dont even know what speeds, with the gravitational pull of earth . That's just insane 😂

What most people don’t realize is that fog is most prevalent near the coast, and the runway at San Diego is right near the water. Also, because of the terrain to the east, there is no precision approach to the runway to the west. When it is foggy, ATC will land to the east using the ILS, which has a decision height of 200 feet and requires a visibility of one half mile. At most other major airports, airliners are capable of autolanding with visibilities down to 300 meters.

@@neonxfirefly That’s exactly what I was thinking. I live in Alaska and anytime I get on a flight you can’t see anything the entire way. Returning home is the same way, landing in thick snow storms not even able to see the ground before we touchdown. Must be the drones😂

I experienced this fog delay on Friday heading out of San Diego. The silver lining here is that MOST of the other people were keeping themselves under control. We were all in the same boat, and no one was rude to each other. Shoulder to shoulder, stressed out, but still respectful. Well done humanity 👏 ❤
