Now I see this! Just planted a bunch of different seeds, some over 20 years old, lol. There is a real need and opportunity for seed growers to market seeds for a small to tiny garden. The cost of buying seedlings has skyrocketed! Menards wants nearly 6 dollars for one basil! I don't need enough beans or peas or lettuce for a 50 foot row! Why not market a variety of commonly grown seeds for different zones? Enough for a raised bed or patio containers. Example: radish, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, chard. I just spent 100 dollars buying a bag of potting mix, 15 herbs , 3 pack of tomatoes, peppers, onion seedlings and 2 four inch pot tomatoes and a package of onion seeds from a local greenhouse. I think we need more libraries to have seed swaps. Bring in your extras for sharing. Take home just what you need. TFS

If only I started my gardening journey with you I would have saved a lot of money. I’m in Huntington Beach and from now I will purchase my seeds from you. I just bought the calendar! I am horrible at growing anything. I started this journey in the fall of 2021 and I haven’t harvested anything but radishes. Im more confident for 2022 now that I’ve found you guys!

Thank you for all the information that you pack into your videos. Living in South Orange County, CA, can I start seeds in flats outside? Do I have to get grow lights or a green house? Last question-how come, now that I’ve planted my cool crops, it’s so dang hot in November?? I don’t remember a hotter November......but then I didn’t have a garden depending on cooler temps before. You can start them in flats out side. They won’t do much. They will be stagnant because of the short days but if you have the room and time to take care of them- go for it. Grow lights are also very cheap.

People who say things like 'You can buy that at the store' don't understand the satisfaction that comes from growing something from seed to table. Store-bought tomatoes taste like disappointment; my tomatoes are freak'n delicious.

I think we're going to be great partners. I can't wait to call you up. I love the Ethiopian Kale you showed last time. I want to grow Ethiopian Brown Berbere, which is a type of pepper. And also, Mitmita, which is also another type of pepper, a little smaller in size, and spicier. There's a whole bunch of other things, like Shiro, which is a type of chickpeas that's turned into flour, that I also want to grow. From sourcing quality seeds standpoint you definitely know what you're doing, and hope we can work together. Keep it up.

i would love a video for beginning going over spacing. i get mixed up between 'thin to' 'final spacing' and 'spread'... never sure how far apart to plant my veggies

Great questions! "Thinning" is usually going down to just one or two plants in a cell (depending on the plant and size pot) but usually one so it can access all of the water & nutrients. Final spacing is how far apart your plants actually end up being in the garden. This is usually on seed packs and will dictate where you plant things. Spread refers to the amount of space a plant will take up.

I left my strongest bean plant to collect seeds since I'm out of seeds for this variety. Yesterday my 4 years old snuck in to our deck and ate most of the beans, I have about 3 seeds left on the plant😂😢

I can definitely attest to onion seeds degrading quickly. I bought a seed pack from Home Depot (not recommend) and in the first season they had about a 40% germination rate. This season they have about 10% germination rate. I sowed 50 seeds and had 6 germinate and they were super slow and weak.

Just like stated here, there are a few seeds with very short viability, onion is one. It is not your fault, just find a better seed source and take note of the year date on the packet. This video is excellent at explaining seed viability and success.

You mentioned a 5-5-5 fertilizer that you use on new plantings, I have been on a quest to find one, I have been unsuccessful, can you please tell me what you use?

I suspect that a true 5-5-5 may only be found in manufactured fertilizers as I couldn't find one that was organic. I usually try to find as close to possible as those numbers like a 4-6-3 etc. Hopefully, Brijette sees your post and answers though. After my plants are mature, I don't fret too much on the organic/manufactured issue as long as my beds drainage is good. I just bought a 40 lb bag from Walmart since there is talk of fertilizer shortages coming. I bought it online for less than $13. "Expert Gardener All Purpose Fertilizer 10-10-10 Formula; 40 lb." Just in case the unavailability and/or prices do skyrocket.

Yes we can buy cheaper BUT that food is from another country..been sprayed there treated at customs then went through God knows what AND that money is decreasing our economy and putting American farmers out of work😁 thanks for going over seeds too..ive bought seeds where whole packs wouldn't germinate
