I have used both these cards in GoPro Hero 4 Black and there is no difference between them, but when I tried to use the Lexar in the Sony Action Cam FDR-X1000 it works fine in mp4 modes, but it doesn't work in XAVC mode because it's not fast enough. Sandisk works well in XAVC.

I love the idea of putting the micro SD card into the USB stick with the Lexar rather then into a card reader for the sandisc.. but I have no doubt if you buy both brands, you certainly can put the Sandisc into the Lexar USB stick as well to plug that into a USB port on the computer.. so at the very least buy one lexar to get that USB stick and then buy whatever you prefer after.. while the Lexar did not write quite as fast as the sandisc did, it still performed well.. and definitely had an advantage in downloading to the computer.. thanks for this video..

I've seen a lot of speed tests of microSD cards but we've found that the best indicator of reliability is to measure the read and write current draw. The higher the current draw, the less reliable the card and the faster it will fail.

thanks for the video. I am using the old scan disk ultra and haven't had any problems other than long videos get split into two clips for some reason. I will be buying a new card tomorrow to see if there is a difference. Hope they sell the Lexar at best buy so I don't have to wait for amazon but I still might go with the Lexar to try a new brand. I always have used scan disk.

Growyourmind86 The Ultra is limited in terms of BitRate by GoPro so that it works somewhat. It will not be reliable at high settings with Protune etc. Splitting of files is down to the file system used on the card by the camera - it will be the same regardless of which card is used.

iftibashir so you think it's worth getting a new card. I have a hero 3 black and record in 1080p 60fps at the highest and never use protune. I want to edit in primere pro but still not sure if I will want to color correct. I think if I find a card for a good price it could be a good idea just so I know I have the best for the camera. Thanks for the reply also. I been doing lots of new things and trying to learn from the community and it's nice when people actually respond to your questions and try to help.

If the current card seems to be working for you, by all means stick with it for now. Although personally I would keep an eye out for any deals on a Lexar 633x or Sandisk Extreme - that way at least you know you have the best performing card regardless of capture settings chosen.

+Creative Films I was the same as you. The Sandisk Ultra was what I was told I need from the shop I git he go pro. I have now moved to the Sandisk extreme (on sale at the time) and have never had another issue, in fact I would say my session even runs cooler now.

Polo Man I was just comparing the two GoPro recommended cards at the time. The Extreme Plus and Extreme Pro are faster overall cards, but you won't see the added speed benefits in the GoPro camera.

I'm a bit confused, I have 32gb extreme plus SDcard in my Gopro hero4 silver. It started out with 2hrs and 3mins of recording time. I filmed a 3 minute video and then imported the footage on my computer. I deleted what was on the SD to free up record time space and then I put the card back into my gopro. I don't have 2hrs and 3mins anymore its just 2hrs. I figured if I deleted the 3minute video from the SD I would gain the space back???

Great informative video. There is soooo much marketing hype with all of this stuff that for the general consumer it's almost impossible to sort it all out. The numbers they claim, especially in resolution, are in reality so minute that the human eye can't possibly tell the difference as in the speed differences between these cards. Bottom line is "find the best price" and try and make sure it's not a third world forgery.

Hello and thank you for your help,just so you know I got the go pro 4 and try the sandisk 64gb class 10 U1 sdhc card and the go pro stops at 19 minutes of recording.same as in the minicam sony hdraz1 great little camera battery not good dont last,I will give this cameras the last try waiting on my Lexar 633 sim card if they give me a sim error than I got two lemons more than a thousand euros investment for what? Perhaps you can shed light into this issue I’ve experienced! I withdrew the SD card from a Hero3White from my MacBookPro too early and it seems to have damaged the contents to the point that they cannot be displayed by the APP on my iPhone 6 or tablet over wifi. I backed up the pictures and movies, reformatted the card in my Hero3 White with firmware version 3.07. After reformatting, I placed back the pictures in the 100GoPro file. I am able to see them on the screen back but not over the APP on my iPhone nor tablet. On a different card I can see the pictures of the other card over the APP. What can be the culprit? The question remains wether I should use the Lexar16Gb card as backup of the thousand pictures and movies plus the computer which cannot be shared or to format the card again and use it as a new card...

GoPro Hero 4 has 60Mb/s for 4K which is 60 Mb/s : 8= 7.5 MB/s so you need a card that can writes min 7.5MB/s constant speed , you don't need 50,60,70 or 80 MB/s write for Hero 4...Peace

it's about "stamina", a more powerful sd card will work for longer periods of time, while a weaker one, like Sandisk Ultra, will work fine in shorter periods of time

Sembian's Life Hacks The spec of Hero3 White is lower compared to the other version, so of course the quality will be affected too.

+Sembian's Life Hacks - the Sandisk Ultra mSD 32GB and larger cards generally write at between 10-15MB/s and a hero 4 Black shooting UHD (not actually 4K... don't get me started) will choke and stop recording video at about the 2min mark. this is due to the camera's cache filling and is unable to put the data to the mSD card fast enough. the Sandisk Extreme mSD 32GB and larger has been tested to write at 41.54MB/s (not quite the claimed 45MB/s) and will handle the UHD video coming out of the Hero 4 Black just fine. i'm guessing that the Hero 4 Black records UHD video at roughly 40MB/s. Also, one more question. In your speed test above, the read speed of the Lexar was faster than the SanDisk and vice versa with the write speed. You mentioned that that would probably translate to the Lexar transferring files to a computer faster (which it did) and that the SanDisk would probably perform better in an action cam because its write speed was faster. I thought that in the camera, the performance would be based on how faster the camera can write to the SD card, and as long as it can read faster than the write, neither would have an advantage. And then on the flip side, when transferring to a computer, I thought it would be based on the write speed of the SD card (not the read speed) and so the SanDisk would have performed better. Do I have it all backwards. Sorry I try and do my research online to figure all this stuff out but it is quite a lot to take in and very confusing at times. Thanks again.

Sean Tennant When used in the camera, the camera is writing data to the card the majority of the time. It only reads data when you are playing back video, for example. When transferring data across to the computer, the computer is reading data from the card, not writing to it, so a faster read speed is desirable.

Hello, I enjoyed you video. I have a hero+ Silver, in which i have used a sandisk 32 g 40mb/s card. Made videos imported and exported them with gopro studio, and the vidoes turn out fine; although they are very choppy during edit but seem to export fine and are uploaded on youtube. On the other hand i recently purchased a sandisk 32g 80 mb/s which will NOT work for the hero3+ as far as exporting I suppose it is too fast for that particular model gopro. My question is, I also recently purchased a Hero 4 Silver to used the higher speed card in. As you know the hero 4 silver shoots 4k. I made a few videos with the hero4 using the new 32 g 80mb/s card, however when I export them the videos are still choppy and useless. Question #1 what can I do to rectify the videos I have or are they useless. Question #2 since the card I have (sandisk 32 g 80mb/s) is recommended for the class camera I have why is it that my videos are still useless? would it have anything to do with my laptop performance? Because I have a feeling that may be the issue. It takes entirely too long to convert and then export the videos after edit, but would that necessarily mean that it would render the videos choppy? As I said before I have made quite a few videos with my hero3+ silver using the sandisk 32g 48 mb/s card and the videos come out fine? Thanks for your help

***** The choppy playback is probably down to your laptop - try playing back the video on a higher spec system and you'll probably find they are fine..... The higher resolutions do need a pretty beefy computer to play them back on.....
