This recipe is barking up the "sweet heat" tree. Dried cherries, cranberries, and/or raisins along with grapes are often used in renditions of Chicken Waldorf salad, so fruit is known to frequently flirt with fruit. Same with how there are apple sage chicken sausages. This one takes the fruity chicken idea, adds some mild heat, and turns it out into patties.

Girl I’m on the fence with this one. I could see cranberry maybe but not cherry. The preserves in the sauce would make it overkill on the sweet and tartness. And it’s a no for me on the baguette that looks impossible to eat. I’d rather a traditional bun.

This actually could work, if you cut the sweetness of the cherries with a string cheese like provolone and plenty of lettus and tomato. I've seen sandwiches made of chicken/ turkey and then a fruity jam like apple or apricot so I could actually see this flavor profile balancing out with some tweaks. Definitely an odd recipe but I understand what it's going for and I've definitely seen worse.

I've had cherry in sausage and it worked but it was cut heavily with herbs and the meatiness of the pork. May like a teaspoon of cherry in the chicken with something fatty and heavy herbs but this is like jam and sweet cherries galore.
