Harry sir, you are a chuffing legend. As someone who's had bikes since 13, and never been without at least half a dozen, I have to doff my cap sir. I have done some gentle off roading over the years, and a spot of pre 65 trials at one point, the thought of a 7 day off road marathon scares me as much as it does excites me, and. as one on the wrong side of 50, I am glad you are there flying the flag for the elder statesman! I found your channel because of the cars, we all love anything with an engine after all. I sell turbochargers for a living, and as such have had my share of rocketships, but bikes are my soul... and the fact you include such content is an absolute joy to watch. So thankyou, and long may it last... :-)

I was lucky enough to be bought up around bikes. Dad was Chairman of the AMCA for a while (during the 80s), we raced UK/European Sidecar Motocross. Initially with a 920 Norton Wasp and then on to Honda CR500's when we gained sponsorship (funny story as the funding was for Jo Durie for Wimbledon, but the CEO of the company was much more interested in bikes rather than balls going back and fourth, so poor old Jo lost out there). Every Sunday was an adventure! I'm commenting as during my childhood the documentary On Any Sunday was on our TV every other day (poor old VHS got worn out). The Sandraiders event reminds me of Malcolm Smith out in the desert, and then I start humming the theme tune to On Any Sunday... So after watching this video, for a little nostalgia, I'm going to go watch it for the 900th time, sit back, and wish you the best of luck Harry! Enjoy yourself and don't forget to sing along to On Any Sunday while out in those dunes! Have fun :)

I'm a year younger than Harry, but unfortunately serious health issues mean I will likely never do anything like this (in fact I was in my 3rd week of hospitalization when this video went up), but Harry does a good job of rendering the look and feel. I have to say that I'm glad he chose the XL, I just love the sound and feel of thumpers. There's just something special about big single cylinder engines.

I'm a cyclist... Sand is my worst nightmare and I'm still not sure if more speed makes it better or worse! The thought of floating a motorbike across kms of it is incredible to me. In the 4x4 we just used to get the tyres down to 8psi and keep the rescue ramps on hand!

Best for sand is steering damper. It makes huge difference. First it stabilizes your steering and after a while, when you get used to it, and when you start to loosen your arms, it starts to be even easier to go through sands. Off course sudden deep sand and therefore lack of power can still make you fly but you won't go fast in that scenario anyways, so it's fine.

This ride brings back a lot of old memories. In my days as a student back in 1987(!) we did a very similar route in a LR. Not through the sandy parts though. Our furthest southern point was probably Ourzazate. My first experience on the African continent. Marocco is a beautiful country if you appreciate arid landscapes+ nature + geology. Crossing the Atlas mountains was quite special going from 30C desert to nearly freezing on top of the snow covered pass.
