Another pedantic point: the three-quarter view of a face is a Flemish hallmark, 50 years before Botticelli's painting, and the Florentines were copying this, just as they were trying to figure out how the Flemings were making oil paint work. By and large, the early Florentines were not innovators, but were rather scholars who were trying to learn how the Flemish painters were acheiving their realistic effects.
