Morphagene is the best invention since spliced bread....... Frankly I'm very happy to see modular moving more towards recorded sound than staying in the realm of synthesized sound. Recorded sound is a much richer source of ideas (and in this case, vitamins too). I'm off now to make myself a peanut butter/fig jam sandwich.

Really looking forward to the next video. It's hard to use the Morphagene very melodically if you don't A) just play river sounds B) smear everything with Reverb or C) just use one splice as a drum.

@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
This is the dirt cheap version Zoom H1. It picks up a lot of movement noise if you hold it in your hand, but it is really great for just recording whatever sounds you encounter in the world. We are working hard to get everything back in stock but I don't have specific ETAs I'm sorry to say.

@MAKENOISE or anyone else with experience, do you have any tips or good resources for normalizing within reaper. It seems like reaper's normalizing metrics are "peak" based instead of average based, so not as great for normalizing across and entire reel when trying to match volumes instead of maximize volumes. I'm sure part of it is probably just learning to be adaptive with the incoming recording levels when making the initial reel, but sometimes that might not be possible. Sorry if this is a silly question, still getting my DAW chops down.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
I usually normalize splices individually if they are significantly different in level. In the video I just normalized the whole thing for simplification’s sake - but the truth is I also did add a little compression beforehand (and on the audio you hear in the video in real-time) because I usually find field recordings to benefit from that too.

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC I'm (very nearly) ashamed to say this but I had to go and check something regarding our cookware - it turns out that we have actually have two Dutch oven style pots and a massively heavy skillet/frying pan by them too. I always forget about that because it's insanely heavy and only gets used once in a blue moon. They are the sort of things that once you have them, you'll probably never have to replace them. Ever.
