This is really incredible. My MG was one of the first five modules i bought when i started the Eurorack journey and I find new uses for it all the time (i use the piano a lot with it as well, despite also not being the most accomplished player)... but I’ve never used the time stretch function. It sounds so smooth! I’ve been listening to a lot of Abul Mogard and Indignant Senility recently and so, at the moment, this feature is going to be very high on the list to try out ASAP. Thank you for the constant reminders that these tools will give you incredible variation and fresh sounds if you put your full attention into them. I think another manual reread is in order. ❤️

Excellent description of timestretch - I’ve used the Morphagene for about a year and this feature always eluded me, I always just sort of patch it and hear the results - hoping this new understanding makes it even more interesting. I’ve found it works really well with dialog; stretching it out reveals a whole world of sounds in the simplest phrases.

Art, I like it, from intro to description. I thought when you unplugged it and resumed at certain time, was strange,made me think of flying nowhere, or a picture to press play on from the past. Time, memory is all very strange. After awhile you realize you're on a planet moving almost timelessly revolving. What do the planets have to do to us aging. It's all very weird

I had to watch this twice to truly appreciate what was going on. The Morphagene is just so endlessly deep. Every time I feel like I've gotten it, it surprises me again. It really makes me wonder about its design process, and if you folks even appreciated its true depth at the time of launch, or if it's taken a few years to sink in :)
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I'd say our attitude toward this is something like, if we had already encountered even half the possibilities of an instrument when we released it, then why bother? We want to create the potential for people to do things we did not imagine while designing. However even by that standard I would agree that the Morphagene is a particularly deep well, and continues to reveal new possibilities.

With Morphagene, it seems as though even with the time stretch feature on, when the pitch is increased the sample plays back at a faster rate, and when the pitch is decreased, the sample plays back at a slower rate. Is this accurate? Generally, when audio is time stretched, shouldn’t it play back at the same rate regardless of pitch?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 2 жыл бұрын
The playback rate is determined by the frequency of the pulses at the clock input. You could also think of time stretch as like modulating Slide with a ramp wave that speeds up or down as the clock does. As long as Gene Size is not zero, Gene Size and Vari-Speed will not affect the overall time it takes to move through a Splice. Also, it is not the individual Genes that are stretched but rather their overlapping start points- with larger Gene sizes the stretching effect will be less apparent

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC thanks for the reply. I actually have been researching this a bit, and it appears my Morphagene is not performing properly regarding the time stretch feature. While in time stretch mode, I have reduced the bpm of the master clock going into Morphagene from 87 bpm to 10 bpm, and the rate that my sample played at did not change. The audio remained steady at 87 bpm. I then increased the bpm to 140, and the audio still did not change. It remained at 87 bpm. Changing the bpm of the clock going into Morphagene had no impact. The left varispeed led was blue, and the morph was at 12:00. I also tried changing the txt file CKOP to time stretch only, and had the same result. The bpm of the master clock had no impact on the speed of the sample playback. Have you heard of this before, and have any recommendations?
