Crazy. The song 'We want America back' was released in 1996. The reactionary always hearken to some earlier, golden age, it was no different in the 90's.

As one who was cognizant of the United States from the early 1960s onward and who has studied modern culture and history fairly consistently and thoroughly, I disagree with your statement. If ever there was a time when "America was America," it was from roughly 1946-66, but especially in the era of the mid-1950s through early-to-mid-1960s, when the economy was relatively solvent, housing was more affordable and before Marxism had permeated the culture and public education system. I realize life was not the same for everybody. But it never is in any time period. Still, television series' such as 'Father Knows Best' and Leave It to Beaver' are pretty accurate representations (albeit idealized ones) of how middle-class, suburban family life was in the U.S. in the 1950s and early '60s.

@@gymnastix My young parents immigrated from eastern europe to the US in 68. As far as my dad is concerned,as immigrants in 68,life was good for my parents. Me,I'll take the 90's. It's just too damn scary today. Its no wonder depression and suicide rates are highest they've ever been.
