It's funny how I used to pitch in LL and HS as a kid and I used to imitate Sandy Koufax....I obviously didn't have his success as I went on to have a long career in the airline industry.. .

I'm a life-long, dyed in the wool, Giants fan. I couldn't stand Koufax when he was playing and beating my Giants. Yet, even then I knew that I was watching the greatest pitcher, ever. Now, at 70 years old, I still feel the same way!

From 1961 to 1966...after he learned to pitch...he was THE BEST!!! After an "at bat" in the 1963 WS....Mickey Mantle walked back to the dugout...threw his bat down...and said: "How are you supposed to hit that shit?". In '63...Koufax went 25-5. Yogi Berra said:" I can see how he won 25 games...what I don't understand is how he lost 5!".He was BRILLIANT!!! You younger fans have no idea....nobody pitching today can compare. In his last year...with the 27 wins...and 27 complete games with the bad arm....he had 11 shout outs. I'll take prime Koufax over all of them! 3 time Cy Young winner in 1963...1965...1966.(That's when they only had one winner for both leagues!). All 3 were unanimous!!! His WS era is 0.95....4 no hitters...a perfect game.....He's a class act!

Three great seasons out of 12 9 mediocre or below mediocre seasons where he was a waste the only reason why he had three great seasons and because of dodges won the pennant in the world series that's the only reason why he would have been on any other team he would have been enough thing Steve Carlton 127 games with a Phillies team in 1972 that we own one only fifty-nine games now that's impressive Tom seaver winning 25 games with a Mets team that 180 games that's impressive

I had no idea his last pain filled year was his best year in all his career pitching categories. Amazing. I am still a big baseball fan, but also follow performing arts. Last week the L.A. Philharmonic amazing superstar conductor Gustav Dudamel, an incredibly passionate Latino from S. America, was so into conducting intensely that he was gasping for breath and pale at the end of the first movement of the opening selection. I posted on the L.A. Philharmonic facebook page and mentioned Norm Sherry and Sandy Koufax, and how Maestro could do just as well if he'd throttle back a bit on the energy.......maybe save his health too so he might not have to retire early some year like Sandy did.

Willie Stargell: "Trying to hit Sandy Koufax is like trying to drink coffee with a fork!" "The Left Arm of God" Best left-hander in baseball history! Whitey Herzog: "We need just two players to be competitve. Babe Ruth and Sandy Koufax." Gene Mauch: "Sandy threw what you'd call a 'radio' ball. You heard it, but you didn't see it."
@victorblock3421
@victorblock3421 Жыл бұрын
True word said by Herzog. Babe Ruth was easily the greatest everyday player. So many incredible players but he stands alone above all. He'd be the best today if he played. Sandy Koufax has incredible competition. Seaver, Gibson, Spahn & many others. Not only was Koufax the most dominating, he'd be #1 pick of all pitchers in history if you'd pole every manager to pick if they needed just one win. And he did it on practically no rest and in the big games. Even more incredible is that Koufax tipped his pitches. The batter usually picked up what was coming and batters did not fear for their lives. Sandy didn't throw at hitters. He challenged them and they leaned in on him, unlike Clemons, Ryan & Gibson who were very willing to crack your head open. They drew fear with their head hunting. Like Ruth, he consistently rose to the occasion when it counted.
