“Divine Proportion” could Rivian designers ask for a better compliment?!?! I agree with Sandy, somehow they managed to make the boxy designed we’ve seen in the G class and Jeep feel fresh and new again. Great job Rivian.

I have to agree with the proportion comment. Not only is it aesthetic, but useful. The closest “competitor” in my humble opinion is the Range Rover. The Defender 110 looks great, but the 3rd row is useless. The Defender 130 is too long and looks like a raised station wagon. The departure angle is also ruined by the 130. The R1S nailed the proportions.

3rd row is a must for families. We looked at them all and got a Traverse because the third row was the biggest. Wish Tesla would make an affordable three row family hauler. A family member had a porshe suv with an inflatible spare and it was one of the most frustratingly useful things I have ever experienced. Unless the tire is sitting perfectly on the rims it won't inflate, and for the life of me I couldn't get it to inflate. I ended up having to just double plug the hole on the original tire which gave her just about enough time to drive home before it went flat.

The discussions of a 'budget" R1S is worthy of consideration. If you looks at the off road capabilities of the platform you can see there is an opportunity to sell into the "Pro" market where the vehicles could be used in the mining, exploration, forestry, agriculture and industrial sectors. When I worked in exploration we used Suburbans because a lot of our geophysical gear needed protection from the elements. I can also see this vehicle being used in an underground environment to transport miners, maintenance crews, electricians, geologists, surveyors and environmental technicians.

I own a R1S and have driven an R1T as a loaner for several days. I got to drive both vehicles in the snow and dry pavement. I drove both back to back, where 1 particular KZbin channel had months in between the two. The truck did feel a little bit better to drive for some reason, but no where near the difference that one (normally trusted) channel made it out to be. My guess is they had more time to dial in the driving dynamics on the truck, which can get tweaked with over the air updates over time. But again, very small difference, this machine is amazing to drive.

Good to see Corey make positive comments about having a spare tire. While it's likely true that most buyers of this vehicle may not know how to change a spare themselves, it's still good to have it -- the more-money-than-brains crowd can at least call someone to change it and then be on their way in 1-2 hours. Compare that to the Tesla way. There isn't always someone at-the-ready at Tesla to "save" you just because you press a button on an app. And who knows if they have your wheel size at the ready, too.

I wish the wheel base was the same as the R1T so the second row doors could be bigger and ride quality would be maintained. In terms of third row, sure the quality is nice, but for $92k, powered third row with recline would be ideal. Also the lack of fully powered tailgate/lift gate is a miss. @rcpmac

It doesn’t suck that it’s ineligible for credits. $7500 is not going to stop anyone from buying this car and the point is to get more EV on the road. The EV incentive is perfectly targeted to bridge the gap between lower priced ice vehicles and EVs

Split tailgates were the norm on Australian wagons - Holdens (GM), Valiant (Chrysler) and Falcons (Ford) - since the early 60's (what it's worth).

I'm skeptical on 6' people in the 3rd row, but it isn't bad. As far as the mechanism to get in the 3rd row, looks similar to how Acadia/Traverse/Enclave/Outlook/etc., works. I think the best options out there are those with 2+2+2 configuration as the aisle in between the middle 2 seats make it easy for people to stretch out in the 3rd row. Also makes it easy to get into 3rd row. With that said, this definitely looks nice and when we get rid of the Model X will be looking at this. Normally I'm not a fan of product advertisements, but Detroit Denim looks interesting, will check that out as well.

I look at the front end and all that I can think of is it's a killing machine. It's a shame that the modern design to make these things look impressive / imposing is perfect for killing people who are not encased in a few tons of metal when the driver makes a mistake.

Your right, that cargo hook setup is rare right from the manufacturer. Prior to this I’ve only ever seen it from Saab in the 9-5 wagon. Maybe there was a 2000-2010 Volvo wagon out there with them too now that I think about it 🤔 Beyond the Swedes doing it before now from the manufacturer I’m drawing a blank…
