I filmed this, and became a close friend of Sandy. I love all the kind words. BUT some assholes such Voided Charm obviously didn't know her and have no respect for people who have passed on. Sandy did go through some rough times, but she didn't run around breaking people's arms! That was a dark phase she got sucked into, and got out of. The Sandy I knew and loved for the last 15 yrs of her life had a heart of gold. She loved her friends, family and fans. Any negative comments clearly come from miserable people who didn't know her. Great drummer, singer, guitar player and friend period.

Thank You Jerry for bringing this to my attention about the negative comments. sometimes, it's hard to keep up with all the comments people post. unfortunately, some negative commets slip through the cracks. My channel has around two million views so I get flooded with comments everyday. Sandy was loved and still is loved by many including myself. I will NOT tolerate ANY negative comments about Sandy. Take this as a WARNING. If you post any negative comments about Sandy, You will BANNED. Thank You again Jerry for bringing this to my Attention. Jettigre*

TheJerrybomb909 i didn't know her but i respect her... i think the runaways did amazing things and they were so brave cause they rocked on 70s and in that moment rock was "for men". I don't care if i didn't know her.. i would've liked to be there when she was sick and find the way to help her 😥

I drove around with two other bandmates looking for Sandy's house, alas she was becoming a rock star. I had the pleasure of telling her me and the Clairol twins were looking for her in Costa Mesa. She had a good giggle about that. A real tragedy she really never got the recognition for her contribution. Gone way way too soon.

Thank you so much for posting this. This brought me to tears. My gf knew them personally way back in the late 70's, and she filled me in with all the info, me being 28 and not very familiar with the band. She said Sandy truly was very kind and warm and cool! The best female drummer of all time, on top of that! You go Sandy!

I got a poster of The Runaways a couple weeks ago because I thought Sandy West had a pretty smile. Never heard of the band before. I’ve been jamming to the music this evening and reading up and watching videos about these ladies and the band, it’s so cool! Even in her later years, Sandy West was so pretty. Rest in Peace, Sandy!

Such a tragic figure in Rock N Roll, like so many young girls exploited by Hollywood. To bad she couldn't find peace while alive. A terrific teenage drummer and person, destroyed by cigarettes when very young, that are still legal. So sad that the Runaways broke up, and she couldn't survive to have a great future in music like Lita Ford and Joan Jett.

One of the best all-around rock drummers of all time. Period. Man or woman, doesn't matter. At 16 years old Sandy West was a more proficient, naturally gifted rock drummer than most of the male drummers in the big-time rock bands of that time period. Sandy literally bled rock drumming, her timing unbelievable and her choices smart. Sandy West's drumming was seemingly effortless, and that's a gift that you seldom see in most rock drummers, or musicians in-general...I hope that more and more young musicians continue to discover Sandy West, because she is EASILY the most underrated rock drummer of all-time...R.I.P.

Oops, received an error message and my message posted twice.. grrr! Anyhoo, very cool interview with Sandy, thank you. It's a shame we lost her way too soon. Altho the Runaways had short lived fame, I firmly believe they paved the way for MANY awesome female rockers. Heard an interview with Cherie not long ago saying that her and Joan would love to have a Runaways reunion but it couldn't ever possible be the same without their beloved band member. Along with their fanbase, the music lives on.

@ILOVEKEETS - That's not entirely true. Lita got the band back together in 1998. Cherie even confirmed this in a recent interview. Lita was willing to do a RUNAWAYS reunion & they even went back into the studio in 1998. What happen is that Kenny Laguna ( Joan Jett's - Manager ) stepped in and was trying to control & manage The Reunion along with Blackheart Records & Lita , Jackie & Sandy did not agree with Joan's decision to bring in Kenny Laguna.

So cool, had no idea Sandy was from Huntington, Bch. I was raised in the Long Beach/Signal Hill area where back in the day (Sandy's time and myself) the downtown area was like a ghost town, no one around and not much to do... with the exception of the music arena. For entertainment we either hung at the beach, had parties AND no fail I'd have a Saturday night ticket for that arena as long as it was a rock band such as Pink Floyd, ZZ, Heart, Alice C.. etc. Huge list! Super fun times :-)
