Such a good man, and such a football mind. Both Norwood and Woodville/West Torrens were privileged to have had him as a coach. Always had such a pragmatic view on coaching while keeping perspective.

I didn't realize how young Balme was when he took Norwood to their flags in 1982/1984. To be able to do that whilst working in a secular job at only 30-32 years of age was a great effort. As a Port supporter I remember the 1984 GF well. I was in high school at the time surrounded by Norwood supporters who made my life an absolute misery the next week. Even though Port lost if you go back and watch the game it is a better spectacle than a lot of modern games where they press up the field and choke the game. Would love Balme to get an assistant job at the Power. Even though it's the old enemy I think his football smarts would be a real asset at Alberton. In some ways I would of preferred a Port and Norwood entry into the AFL rather than the Crows. It would be great if Norwood could get a license but I think they might look at an extra team from Perth with the city now nearly double the size of Adelaide. Intelligent Coach Balme and seems like a really good bloke with it. Great interview. 👍👍

I hate Norwood with a passion but I have to admit Balme's early 80's teams had immaculate skills and were hard as nails in big games.
