Norman Lear stole from Eric Monte ideas. Also, Lamont went into the ministry. So it he didn't come back for Sanford. Network offered Redd alot of money to come back.

I love the old school sitcoms that used the plot device (dramatic irony? idk) like here where one party misunderstands the other/misinterprets a situation, which then is from where the central comedy unfolds. I don't watch current sitcoms, so they might still use it, but growing up this kind of storytelling was comedy gold to me.

I've been wondering if those are recreations of Margaret Keane's work and assume so. Her ex-husband took credit for the work and she was too meek to protest against it even though she was rightfully angry to find out he was doing it. Once they got divorced, she sued him for copyright infringement and won the case by doing an actual painting in court which he couldn't do since he wasn't half the artist she was.

Haha no. Redd Fox quit Sanford and Son for his own variety show (on ABC) which failed after four months. Years later he tried his luck again so they created this show. His son from Sanford and Son (I think Damont Wilson was his name?) didn’t want to return because Redd had abruptly left the show without even telling him and he was pretty hurt.

I love the original Sanford and son show but like so many others when they try to branch out it never works… The acting on this one is so low quality… The writing and acting in the original were really superb for a show from the 1970s
