From a time when we could laugh at each other with a friendly smile and people didn't get offended. He was able to make light of any situation and bring people together. His bigoted character was what made him so funny on the show. Interesting notes: Redd Foxx was born John Sanford and his father's name: Fred Sanford. Demond Wilson, who played son Lamont, eventually became an ordained minister.

I forgot to leave a comment about the location. The location I found the most fascinating was the location where it was filmed. They had a nostalgic sense. In a way it was disappointing to see that it had changed. Because in my imagination I still have the way it looked when they were actually in the house in filming. I always like to think that those locations are preserved for posterity what is posterity . LOL. These shows gave us comfort as children and so it's kind of shocking to see that they're not maintained as Museum pieces. Kind of the way that Dave Letterman show was dismantled and everything thrown away and disposed of is what I heard. And as a child it seemed more real to me. Anyhow, I like to think that somehow and someway these locations are preserved, somewhere in the Twilight Zone.

I remember seeing them film the opening scene at this location on Magnolia and Cartwright in North Hollywood. I lived on the next street over which is Willowcrest Ave. Also, back in the late 1960's to some time in the 1970's, that location was an actual second-hand store called "Joe's Salvage and Junk Shop" that was owned by Joe Lawler (he looked like Jack Albertson's character " the man" in Chico and the Man). He later added a "theater" in the back of the building for stage plays. Me and some of my buddies from around the neighborhood used to go there and check out the merchandise. There was a very large yard in the back of the building that had lots of "stuff" for sale. You name it, they had it... the good old days! The original building that was seen in the show was razed in 1989 and the existing new structure was built.

@@TVJAB That's just an illusion because the camera angle of the old film and the new photo are different. You can tell by looking at the new photo and the size of the driveway outlined in the concrete. That's still only one vehicle's width for the most part. So it's the same size, and like he said, that street sign pole and oddly shaped building in the background are dead giveaways. Old film has a way of squishing things to make them appear smaller. I've done this kind of stuff with old movie scenes paused and comparing the location in Google Maps, and it always looks much smaller in the old movie.

I grew up on 91st and Central during the filming of Sanford And Son, the house I lived in could be seen on Google maps. At that time 9114 Central Ave was a parole/probation office, where I learned to play basketball, shoot pool, play ping pong as well as race cars on a track. The granite place was a gas station, the fast food place was one of the original Fat Burgers where they had the best chili fritos. A small church was across the street. One of my all time favorite shows , got my kids hooked on it on dvd . This was soooo interesting to see where they filmed the opening of the show . Love to know who got the sign from out front. They probably threw it all up in one day , shot it and took it back down . It makes you wanna believe that it was there and still is after all these years . Thanks

One of my fave shows. So funny. Fred Sanford was such a character. Loved him and aunt Esther. It's crazy how they Hated each other on the show but in real life they were best friends. And Red said he wouldn't do the show unless she was in the show with him. So epic. Loved this show.

You had to do alot of research to find these cool facts. I saw the resemblance of the surrounding buildings trees etc. This really made it even more fun to watch the opening/closing credits. I wonder how long it took to set up the shot for the credits. I imagine it was done in one day. Really love these videos. It really helps me appreciate what it takes to bring a show together. There are so many aspects to consider. Thanks for revealing some of them. I love that timeless classic show ..

The location of the actual building used in the opening title screen of the show was of the most interest to me. I enjoy when actual buildings are located on your channel. Even though I don't usually like long videos, it would be helpful if you left the screen shot comparisons up a little longer. I find myself having to pause and go back a lot or run the video at slower speeds to catch all of the visual detail. Thanks.

Every day when I arrived home from work she would have Sanford and Son on the TV. I would play a game with her, saying I could recognize the episode within the first few seconds. We laughed and laughed every day. I even went online and found a Sanford and Son t-shirt, with the famed truck. Keep up the good work.
