"Who are the Indians?" This seemingly rhetorical question is the root of a century old schism in super-heated debates on the Indian identity. In this talk, Dr. Raj Vedam marshals evidence from multiple disciplines to bear on the issue.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Raj Vedam obtained his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Ph.D. also in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University, Corvallis, USA. He has over 26 years of professional experience in Power, Electronic Design Automation, and Oil and Gas industries and has worked in applied mathematics and engineering across multiple disciplines. He has several patents and international journal and conference publications. Working at the confluence of applied mathematics, engineering, algorithms, and computer science, and using tools of Archeo-Genetics, Archeo-astronomy, Archaeology, and pursuing evidence of knowledge transfers from ancient India, Dr. Raj Vedam has put forward a strong thesis with verifiable facts, on the antiquity of the Indian Civilization, and the many discoveries made in ancient India. He has delivered over 100 lectures in India and the US, on the subject of scientific validation of narratives on history of India, in which he has developed a deep interest. He has conducted a dozen high school teacher training workshops in India on a multi-disciplinary approach to history. He has also revised history textbooks for Texas Education Agency, as well as the state of Telangana. Raj Vedam serves as Director, Arsha Vidya Satsanga, a non-profit focused on Indic education based in Houston.

Thank you all for this amazing talk! I am intrigued and fascinated by what I am learning about the people and culture of India. This presentation about origins and history of Indian people is exactly what I was hoping I would find. Please keep the Sangam Talks going; you are raising the awareness of we ignorant, mis-educated people in the West. For all that I have a Batchelor of Science in Agribusiness Economics, I am immensely grateful for this information to counteract the silly and inacurate history I was beaten with in school. I have only one concern with these talks: sometimes I need the Closed Captioning to be able to understand the proper names of people and locations, but when the speaker talks too fast, the CC text goes blank, so I would ask that speakers speak a little more carefully and slowly so that the CC text can keep up and I can read them. Thank you very much! Love, joy and blessings to all. Namaste

@@EtudianteAviendah The National Emblem of India is derived from the time of the Emperor Ashoka. The emblem is a replica of the Lion of Sarnath, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The Lion Capital was erected in the third century BC by Emperor Ashoka to mark the spot where Buddha first proclaimed his gospel of peace and emancipation to the four quarters of the universe. The national emblem is thus symbolic of contemporary India’s reaffirmation of its ancient commitment to world peace and goodwill. The four lions(one hidden from view ) - symbolising power, courage and confidence- rest on a circular abacus. The abacus is girded by four smaller animals-Guardians of the four directions: The Lion of the North, The Horse of the West, The Bull of the South and The Elephant of the East. The abacus rests on a lotus in full bloom, exemplifying the fountainhead of life and creative inspiration. The motto 'Satyameva Jayate' inscribed below the emblem in Devanagari script means 'truth alone triumphs'. Date 26 January 1950

Dr Vedam, I have watched this several times, and because it is jam pack full of information (and complex information), I feel I will need to watch it again. I commend you for producing such a thought provoking presentation. I have been exposed all my life to Western thought, education and culture & not paid much attention to non Western achievements. Don't get me wrong, I believe we have much to thank the Western capabilities for, but I realized about ten ago that Western ' thought & achievement' didn't just materialize out of nothing; indeed it must have come from some where. Todays Western proponents have settled on classical Greek as the progenitor of their culture and perhaps all 'relevant' culture, seemingly conveniently ignoring ancient Egyptian culture, preferring to pay attention to Ptolemaic (Greek) influences. It occurred to me if they were prepared to ignore ancient Egyptian cultural achievements (right on their doorstep), they would hardly acknowledge any Eastern influences, particularly Indian! I thank you for opening my eyes. I would like you represent your research/findings in a more comparative descriptive, i.e. ignoring the comments of "Jones & Mueller" and the political/nationalism that comes with this, but clearly pairing up the findings of classical Greek times through their astronomical findings with ancient Indian astronomical findings, and itemize when Greeks say a major astronomical event occurred and when Indians do. My humble view is that a lot of mystery of who's who & what's what can be deciphered by looking for clues in the linguistics, cultural, art & crafts. I am currently attempting to this. Thank you for the impetus. I have come to believe that agriculture couldn't have started in one place and spread out. This is nonsense. South American culture proves this!

You also pointed out about the Framework imposed on Indians for many years by the people came to India in the past (Colonials, Eurocentric thinkers, vested Interests, socialist academia, marxist etc). I agree with you that Indians did not borrow any ideas from outside India but others did from India. By listening to your talk, I feel like you are also promoting some level of hatred among people currenly living in India who are not Hindus. While you are helping Indians to be proud of themselves, should you not promote unity in diversity at the same time? I mean is it not the right thing to do? Is it not Dharma?

In ancient times, there was a practice that, kings used to lend and borrow soldiers in emergencies like wars. Also India had contacts with Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia, China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Central Asian countries and many other kingdoms. This might be a reason for the DNA mix in India and some foreign kingdoms. Another reason could be Ashwamedha Yaga.

11 long boring minutes taken away by the introducers! One to introduce the introducer who should introduce the main speaker. This is typically Indian in "custom," the introducers trying to ride on the coattails of the main speaker. Raj Vedam does not need an introduction. He is already well known among his Indian audience. A customary 2-3 minute introduction would suffice. Now, those two buggers taking 11 minutes and talking mostly about themselves! That is outrageous. Buggers!

He is not a professor. I am not surprised that you got all this from this talk - your ilk is known to hallucinate on Marx, Christ, Mohammad and more. Normal people are capable of evaluating the evidence, and use rationality and logic to increase their understanding, and critique with facts. Mind-colonized and deracinated people such as yourself are incapable of arguing with facts or logic and hide behind a fig-leaf of sarcasm to mask their sheer ignorance, low-IQ, low self-esteem, difference-anxiety, bigotry, prejudice and more.

The question "where we came from ?" is fundamaenatally flawed. Some portion of our todays population like Muslims and European, The Greeks the Shaka, Huns and Kushan certainly "came from" outside and it is their narrative that like them all others too "came from" outside. That is simply to destroy the core of Indian nationality that revolves around the indegenious history, culture, civilisation, literature anad then is further extended into Dharamaic foundations so that others are given nataionility credentials. Both are seperate subjects and one should not be used to subvert the other as has been been done so far by the mischivious British and their Leftist cronies.

@Ak South Indians never existed, still don't exist. It is a pejorative term. I am from Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka. My Matrubhasha is Kannada & we speak Tulu on the Street. 11:15 it is mentioned India was populated from south. Later stated that AMT is farse but out-of-infia migration is correct. So essentially, people came from Africa to southern tip of India and then populated the continent. And sice there was not Aryan migration, south indians are first people and the sout north are just same people.

Suryannarayana Sastri wrote: They then set themselves the task of translating learned treatises from Tamil to Sanskrit in secret to give the impression to the mass of the people that these translations were original productions in Sanskrit and later translated into Tamil-a not an uncommon trick practiced by nations even to this day. The initial access they attained for themselves every position, that gave them social eminence. In place of of the pandaya-Nan-Marai, the ancient treatises on Aram, Porul, and Inbam and the Agamas of the Tamil land, the Vedas, Upanishads and allies literature were introduced. In the temples were installed a multiplicity of gods and goddesses, thereby causing confusion in the minds of the followers of the rationalMonotheistic religion of the Tamils”. T. R. Shesha Iyengar says:“The influence of Tamils on the culture of India has been ignored, because the literature which records the development of hindu religion was the work of hostile priesthood whose only object to magnify its own pretentions and deny everything that is Tamilian. But the truth is that Tamilians had already developed a civilization of their own, long before the Aryan civilization was transplanted into their midst……..Their civilization was more ancient than that of the Aryans……….They reached a high degree of civilization and as regards refinement and culture, they were more advanced than the shepherd Aryans”.
