This is an incorrect observation. Jayettan sings all songs he likes, irrespective of who sang it. This observation comes from my personal experience. We had done a show of several Malayalam singers. It was my responsibility to take all singers to the radio station for their radio interview. So I went to Jayettan's room at 10 am that day and told him that we had to leave at around 12.15 pm to the radio station for his interview. When I walked into his room, he was surrounded by his admirers and well wishers. Jayettan was lying in his bed in the 'Ananda shayanam' pose. I was seeing Jayettan for the first time, and he flared at me and said he would not come for the interview. Perhaps everyone in the room felt that I will go my knees to plead. But I had a different personality. I directly called the radio station director Timmy Abdullah and asked him to cancel all the promotions for today's star interview, as Jayettan can't make it. I had to give a reason, and I said Jayettan is not keeping well (which was a lie). And all this right in front of Jayettan and his bunch of well wishers. When Jayettan heard that, he changed his mind and said he would come. Timmy Abdullah was still online, and I told Timmy that we would come and asked him to continue with the ad. Since I was taking Jayettan in my car, I was very tense, and kept a set of Jayettan's songs in the car's cassette player (at that time it was all cassettes), and had planned to play this during our 45 mins to 1 hour drive. This was especially because I had started my first interaction with Jayettan on the wrong note. Jayettan surprised me by starting to sing his song 'Manjalayil mungi thorthi' as I started the car, and then for the rest of the trip, he kept singing Dasettan's song and his songs. That was when I realised he was a very genuine person at heart. Our relationship, which started there, led me to make my first music album 'Swamy' with him singing all 10 songs. This was in 2003. I also feel blessed to have been in Kozhikode on the day he got the Kerala State award for his song in the movie 'Niram'. I drew him from Taj Kozhikode to the venue of the event in my car. My car didn't have a VIP pass or an all access pass, and at each check point, I was stopped from proceeding by the police. I would then point them out to Jayettan, sitting next to me and I was waived through all check points. This showed to me that all Keralites love him with their heart. He is a very genuine soul, and I can not accept the comment that he is singing Dasettan's song to impress Swamy. Jayettan is one of the few genuine persons still in the film industry. And I can say it positively from my experiences with the film folks.
