For me, it's not the lack of wings (I never really liked the wings anyway), it's the last of detail around the torsos. The old ones had beautiful collars and engravings. And each chest piece of was different. I will also be keeping by some of the old spare heads to use on the new ones I reckon, because these ones just don't feel right

The loss of the wings really just makes them look like Stormcast with Primaris Jump Packs. I’m sure they didn’t get fancier ones because spruce design but also to make them look to similar to the Sanguinor. Probably wanted him to stand out if he was surrounded by the Sanguinary Guard, but still really disappointing. And honestly, why are all their recent videos so flipping dark? I could understand if the are trying for a grim atmosphere, but it look more like they just cheated out and didn’t turn on enough lights to really show the models. Edit - Also one of the Guards looks to have a goofy pose, at least how he is photographed. He looks more like he is landing badly and about to fall over backwards.

Probably would be cheaper to take normal 10 man squad box of intercessors with jump packs give them power swords, trim heavy bolt pistols to fit on the arm, give them 40mm bases and pain them gold. This way you can get 9 sanguinery guard plus from the last make a captain with jump pack

So typically SG were an anti-infantry blender and Death Company could take on vehicles and monsters with thunder hammers. It looks like the roles are reversed now, with DC having chainswords and an eviscerator and, possibly, the Encrmine Spears being an anti-large weapon.

Not really, death company were infantry blenders for most of their existence because they had rending and furious charge. It only really went that other way in 8th and 9th when thunder hammers got way cheaper. Before 5th death company couldnt even take thunder hammers, and after that it was like 40 ppm so no no one took them.

GW modeling team has become model(color) by number. Take preexisting assets attach to preexisting posses and attach unique identifiers to predetermined locations. This corporate greed, hire random joes who care less about the product but can model in structured way and pay less. Creativity cost money so limit to predetermined amounts. What they will prove is that paying more unique units from cost of sculpting is now not an acceptable reason. When all unique units are copies of each other, you can't say that is the need for price hike. Long term killing the golden goose.

Wish the Sanguinary Guard's tech-wings were double the size rather than looking like a cross between chicken wings and a waffle iron, and the models were on more impressive bases. The new Stormcast Prosecutors in Skaventide are 20 times better than there, but that's the norm for Age of Sigmar models compared to 40k models.

Not a BA fan so take this with a grain of salt, I think they look good without wings… but if you wanted to add them greytidestudios is about to launch a crimson lords campaign where you can get winged jumppacks and other bits to make these more like the old models if you wanted. I dont know how GW went from Dante and the Sanguinor's new sculpts to golden assault intercessors for 3 for the price of 5. Why didn't the Sanguinaru guard keep their unique jump packs even without the wings or the encarmine axes like Dante has? Why are they just golden assault intercessors with a golden Blood Angels upgrad sprue? Why are there 3 of them instead of 5 when Sanguinary Guard have been in aquads of 5 for over a decade? GW really dropped the ball on the Sanguinary Guard, but at least the Sanguinor looks good. It even has the unique jumpack.

I understand why others would like the original more, the wings give off a nice silhouette. They are nicely sculpted and well painted. Similar to Dante but more pronounced than his too subtle wing decal. It's clealry not done by a kid. You don't have to like it. But it isn't as bad as you are acting

This has me wishing we never got a “refresh” as a long time blood angel fan and collector I am seriously disappointed with what they did with our special units. Special characters look good though. Time to 3D print and scale the old dc and sang guard.

Wings will fit with the reculpt MKIV jump pack like Astorath and The Sanguinor. Suspect due to Sprue size limitation/cost for a 3 model kit, they decided to move to regular jump pack

It's probably because when they originally came out the swords and axes were called glaive encarmines. Matt Ward, who wrote the codex obviously didn't know what a glaive was.

Doesn't seem like any of the glaive encarmine relic weapons survived since "glaives" only have one edge. The new ones are power swords and spears with double edges.

It’s most definitely a JoyToy Sanguinius Model because if you think about it the last primarch who got it was Horus…so whose a perfect matchup to go against him(also the BA had just got a refresh in JoyToy very recently)

I've already said my peace a 100 times it feels like but here goes. The Sanginator guy, I hate the scrolls. just do. some will like it, it's fine I can live with it. I also don't like his head. ok, I'll swap it out. The guard. oh boy... 1: 5 man box down to 3 man and you know they are going to charge the same price if not more. feels scummy. No axes? couldn't be bothered? too busy? No wings? the wings are iconic... ffs. seriously? how did they think losing the wings was ok? so first you price gouge us and give us less models, then you are too busy to make axes... and then you take their wings away. on top of that the heads are meh, and less fancy. tactical rocks for the save as usual. the guns are smaller on the wrist. and no nipples. not sure why they hate nipples now. the chest is flat and bare. when you update a model it's supposed to feel like an upgrade, these are not an upgrade.

The HQ actually looks great. Just the right amount of detail and I like that at least he isn't doing the go-to "jumping off a tactical rock" pose. As for the sanguinor guard, kinda lackluster. They aren't terrible like that inquisitor model we recently got, but despite the lore kinda explaining why, them not having wings really just makes them look not that much different from jump assault marines. they could've used more variation and details.

I don’t know why they didn’t do what they did with the old Blood Angels Chaplain with a jump pack in terms of wing design for the Sang Guard because that model has wings built into the jump pack that are kind of swept back and it wouldn’t make them look too similar to the Sanguinor imo. In saying that you could do a kit bash with that jump pack but getting 3-6 depending on how many you want in your army would be a pain in the ass/expensive

The Sanguinary Guard... those models are sloppy AT BEST! Some of the bitz look fine, like some of the weapons and some of the hands, but the jump packs are 110% vanilla, the shoulder pads are thoroughly mediocre (the firstborn BA upgrade pack has some epic shoulder pads) and that's all the good things I can say about them. They look far too chubby, frankly they look like they were made by the same guy who made Coteaz. The death masks are fugly, far too large and look like they were made by ogryns for ogryns. WTH? The firstborn Sanguinary Guard had the archaic jump packs and the wings (albeit ridiculous, the way they were made) gave them personality. They should have kept the archaic jump packs and put on some armor for them in the shape of folded wings, or something - something visible, not the toothpicks they got. And to add insult to injury, you can get a pack of TEN stormcast eternals vindictors for probably the same price THREE of the new Sanguinary Guard will go for, slap on some appropriate bitz and get a better-looking squad for significantly cheaper. Or you can put in some work using the same vindictors and actually get something much, much better. A tally of the new BA models so far: 1. New Lemartes - frankly, my opinion is that he looks like he's taking a screaming dump; the firstborn model was far superior 2. New Astorath - Ok-ish to good. 3. New BA primaris upgrade sprue - the worst I've ever seen, with the goofiest-looking heads. I'd rather 3D print the shoulder pads. 4. New BA multi-option captain - absolutely awesome, I may get one just to have it, it's a beautiful model. 5. New BA Sanguinary Priest - another absolutely awesome model, I'm extremely happy I didn't get the regular Apothecary model. 6. New Sanguinor model - ok-ish. I'd rather get a better look at the mask, though. It looks funky in some of the pictures. 7. New BA Sanguinary Guard - the worst thing since square wheels. Frankly, I'm lucky I play Dark Angels. We got far better toys to play with, even though nowhere near as many.

The tactical rocks wouldn’t be so weird for the jump troops if they didn’t also give them that weird lean. To me it always looks more like they are slipping or falling more than flying or leaping forward.

i started with the eldar back in the days. and then dark eldar with the new release. so always T 3. And then i wanted a T 4 army and i started with the blood angels. i did all my marines with guard and death company. so yeah, that was VERY pricey. i painted them with clear red and matt varnish. but then i left the hobby. now. i think i come back and give it a try.
