Today I am showing you how to do a sanitary trim at home on my cats Faucet and Coupon. They are long-haired and I shave around their bottom to keep it sanitary. Faucet dislikes to be shaved and Coupon HATES to be shaved so I have some tips for dealing with them that you can use on your difficult cat!

Thank you for the most honest video on YT. This was like therapy..we are in central France...we have a white fluffy cat that we adopted 8 years ago. Ok we are a bit rubbish as we were not prepared for the white fluffy-ness that came our way and we are the last people on earth that needed a white AND fluffy together. She eats the best..but occassionally she has accidents. It takes two of us..we have done her body over the last two days. We tried to do her sanitary area earlier..NO CHANCE..even for two people. So well done you..Our cat is off to the vet on Monday for her vaccines and we will try to negotiate the cheapest (pls god) price for that. May god have mercy on our souls that have assertive cats.

Getting my long haired buddy home from the vet after his weekend long spa stay at his vet's office for apparently no reason other than he just didn't want to clean himself last week and then became raw. Thought something was seriously wrong, but after a series of expensive tests, apparently not (edit: obviously, a good thing!). Regardless, I came to the trusty internets to learn how to shave him to enable his whimsy to just not clean himself whenevers. I dutifully scrolled past all of the plain jane videos about sanitary shaving until I got to your thumbnail that showed a face of a woman who has both seen some shit and who knows how to handle business. I feel your pain, my friend. I too have faced the smashed poo forced bathing with a cat who has…very strong feelings about anyone restraining her, ever. After the third time she shot through my hands, out of the bath and into the hall like raging greased lightning (leaving wet poo bits everywhere in her wake like she was sprinkling stinky gross fairy dust), I gave up. Which is why I’m here.

before you even said it, i literally was like wow, she has made me brave enough to just go for it. however i have ragdoll very similar to coupon, and i am terrified of her. she of course needs the cut more than any of them. she is a 9 year old female who i started fostering because shes totally fear aggressive and of course i fell in love. so as soon as i decided to officially adopt her… well her rear matted up and now here i am trying to figure out how i can groom her bottom because i feel like a groomer would be like “no.”. 😭 half tempted to burrito her, but im scared of her. 😅

I have a Maine Coon who is I think worse than coupon - I can't even pick up her tail. That is enough for her to be sus. She hisses in the happy hoodie. I may try the burrito but she's like 15 pounds. Currently has a giant mess on her butt. But this was a good watch, it's good to know this takes you like 45 mins. Because I feel like that seems accurate - cats need lots of breaks. Dogs you can usually ply them with treats and they will deal with you.

Great video but I'm aghast that you're going so long without treats. No wonder you have so much trouble! I discovered that showing my cat what and how much hair I get, and associating that to one or two treats(size of hair clump removed) makes them immediately relax when they get spook d but more important, it makes them want you to get more hair so they can get more treats. It's worked for me!!! However, if they get a dingleberry and do the booty scooter across the floor, they will go berserk no matter what...you HAVE to burrito them in that case. Is one having, a brush and the scissors were fine, but cat is afraid of the noise of the electric clippers. I have not been able to use it at all, not even once. I'll have to try the burrito for that.

I love this, can you show it with scissors though by any chance? My cat is SO skiddish and HATES the sound of a shaver even more than she hates her butt being touched (which is a LOT)

Scissors are much more dangerous even with how much cats hate the sound of the shaver. Please do not use scissors unless a professional groomer shows you the type to use and how to do it with least risk. Cats skin isn't attached to their muscle and it moves on its own, so if you scissor cut the skin because it's loose it can really do damage. A small knick for us can mean antibiotics and stitches at an emergency vet for you and your kitty. You have to be careful with clippers/shavers too which is why everyone says to use a scooping motion in and away while use the clippers on the shortest setting. You also have to pull the skin so it's taunt and not loose which can be difficult with only 2 arms. If skin gets caught in the clipper blades it can be seriously painful and wounding to a cat. I have to help my professional groomer with my Persian boy because there's just no way one person can ever shave him.

Update: I did it. 🎉 warmed the towel took off the guard and sang to my girl whilst I turned the shaver on low and out of sight. Rocked her and slowly brought the shaver up and wow. She just laid there and let me get it done. If it isn’t a very good shave job, I certainly can’t blame her. I am so happy I found your technique (gently holding her tail in my knees and holding her feets in my one hand). Thank you for helping others have the courage to give it a go. 😊😻

Thank you for the tips and for the laughs 😂 We have 1 tuxedo/Main Coon mix (Angus) and 1 full Maine Coon (Maximus) and one of them has been tracking poops, so it’s time for both to get these trims. When my first cat, Bailey (orange tabby), was a kitten, I had to wrap him in a burrito to trim his nails. Thankfully, that’s no longer necessary, as he just lets me do it, but I do have to wrap the other two to get anything done. Maximus is a kitten, and he actually enjoys being held, but Angus is old and ornery and does not want anything trimmed or to be held in any way. He’s totally a Coupon!

Thank you so much! I feel so bad and i don't want my baby hating me! But he needs it. He wont allow me to brush him, all he does is freak out and bite the brush. Don't know if that's bc he was a stray most of his life, it even took him forever to accept and understand what a kiss was! 🤣🤣🤣 So he now has dreadlocks underneath his armpits. And i know cats are super clean in general, but i noticed that my cat is extra clean, he grooms himself constantly and has beautiful long golden fur. And i know it's bad when he can't do it himself. My lil ladies are super mean when it’s time for sanitary shaves…..so what i have discovered is just get it done when they’re in heat. They happily present it to you and cooperate super well, so i super shave them then and by the next heat cycle it wont be that long either and a quick shave will do….I’ve been doing this for a while now and my arms are finally healing the scars from previous endeavors.
