I think the chords for the guitar should have an option to adapt to “realistic” chords - limited to 6 notes and with correct fingerings - they sound like piano chords on the guitar.

Long time users are being railroaded into an expensive update with functionality that we don’t want or need in order to get bug fixes and performance fixes that have plagued this software since the last version and it’s maddening.

I'm honestly not someone who would use those one finger chord/patterns functions.. i like to play stuff and that's what makes music interesting to me (even if I can't do it well, the challenge is where the fun is for me).. so if no new instruments in the free verison, then maybe there is no reason to jump to version 8 for me..

@@JeffyG The simple answer is a LOT! I kinda struggled with Scaler 2 for a while, then I got the online Scaler 2 course which has made it a LOT easier. From what I see in Kontakt, yeah, it has a chord generator and a phrase library, but remember this... those only work with Kontakt instruments that work in the full version of Kontakt... NKS compatible instruments aren't in that camp. So right off the bat, Scaler 2 is better. Add to that the fact that Scaler 2 allows you to revoice chords, create and save your own progressions library, has an INCREDIBLY comprehensive modulation section, and allows you a LOT of overall flexibility in its use, and for the money, Scaler 2 is simply a great deal along with being a very powerful tool. I feel that the real combo is EZ Keys 2 and Scaler 2. Yes, EK2 has some of the features of Scaler 2, but Scaler is more powerful in the chord building aspect, while EK2 is powerful in the amount of MIDI packs they have that allow you to have a much more human element in your keyboard tracks. I'm not a keyboard player, but would like to create some tracks that are a bit more keyboard oriented, so that's MY choice for a power combo. Also... like Scaler 2, EK 2 can import MIDI into your DAW and work with any MIDI instrument... unlike Kontakt 8. For me, I'll be using the free Kontakt 8 player, but I'm going to save my money for any upgrade as long as I can, I hope this helps.

It does with mine (S88MK3) after the firmware update they released just the other day. You'll need to grab the "hardware services" update from Native Access first, and then after that installed my keyboard screen showed a url to grab the new firmware.

thanks for the video, i really like contact 8. one problem i have is that if i want to create my own kit under loops and i have dragged a loop onto a key, there is no way to remove the loop from the key again? you can only assign a new loop to the key. i sometimes find that a bit awkward in certain situations. has anyone already found out how to do this. i have not yet found a description for contact 8 either.

I have a small idea for your videos tho, I think u should review Theia and Hyperion by wavesequencer, they just give that kontakt outside of kontakt feeling (you'll get what I mean soon), I like using it in some of my songs especially since the sounds themselves are really beautiful, I will stay tuned for it! I’m currently doing a clean install on my pc and it prompted me to install the 8 player. I’m an owner of kontakt 7 so I have the additional library that’s not included. I don’t care much about the “building” aspect. Can I replace kontakt 7 with 8 player for 80 Percent of the functionality? Also not too worried about conflux

Phrases and leap kits are so cool, I'm not a huge fan of chord players they are maybe more useful then I realise, however they are generic at best I think great I have a cool sound going but if I am relying on a preset may other musicians do too, so it's hard to stand out...another thing that gets on my nerves is the have chord kits right but they are for techno and pop, I'm making Trap beats.

No, Kontakt is like a Game Console, you need it to play the games made for that console. But you have to buy them separately. There are "free" games (virtual instruments) from third party creators that you can use on Kontakt, but the main ones made by Native Instruments you have to buy them one by one, or in huge packs that have a lot of them. But pricing is kinda huge and not really worth it if you are doing Music production as a hobby or without intentions of making it profitable. Their bundles are called Komplete (right now Komplete 15, every year they renew their catalog with new instruments and the number changes too), they have a Free bundle with a few instruments actually, it is called Komplete Start, and then there's Select, Standard, Ultimate and Collector. If you are thinking about buying one, wait for Black Friday, Christmas or even during Summer (from June to August) they have (and most Music Production companies) huge discounts. Native Instruments just goes to 50% in the best case scenario. I hope this info helps you :)

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I find this all rather depressing - pre-made chord packs, phrase packs, loops etc, it feels like the antithesis of creativity. And why would you tinker around, changing separate, single parameters to see what sound it throws up, when you've got unlimited, multi-factor options at your finger tips, that you can change instantly depending on what you're feeling or hearing in your head.

It’s a good overview, but let’s face it, Kontakt 8 is ridiculous. Oh look, loops and one-finger chords! Next they’ll be selling us chord sets. There’s noting in v8 that’s of value to me, but people have already started making libraries for this new version, and I’ll want them, so I’ll have to upgrade.
