Legends used to sit in the judges' seats of singing reality shows back then. Additionally, the audience members were attentive and silent yet appreciative observers. There didn't exist cheesy humour or time-wasting sob stories as it happens today. Everything was centred around music and interesting facts about musical topics. We TV watchers used to enjoy the judges' most fleeting expressions or simple remarks. They never complimented vocalists excessively or interjected with grating or cheap theatrics. Contestants embraced the judges' remarks with tremendous humility and saw them as rewards. The host was gracious and well-informed. Golden days of music-related shows! And Sanjeev, you were brilliant like always. My family admired your talent then and we do it today as well. 👍

This is like miracle, like a day dream, such a brilliance in such a small aged guy, well accomplished. I wonder really how he managed to sing single handedly which was a duet song. I also was surprised to see that judge has asked the name of raag from such a marvelous singer.

I have heard this performance way back in 1997 telecast. In my opinion Sanjeev should have won that edition of SaReGaMaPa hands down. I still cannot imagine how Mohmad Vakeel managed to win it. He was also a good singer but Sanjeev was far more superior than Vakeel.

What a song(raag)! Sung, in presence of respected veteran music composer Anil biswas,who stand high Mukes,the respected singer,by only a single song!at the begining of Mukeshji's at first entry;still I can remember,at 1944.

This is as close to the original as possible. You were simply wonderful. I had heard you in CT probably at an India Association function when you were still in high school. You had sung Deewana Hua Badal (from Kashmir Ki Kali.) I believe you had also put together a small book of Hindi songs written in Western musical notation which your father had come to my printing press (then in West Hartford) to have printed. Later, I came to know that you went to Princeton. I am interested to know if you still give music programs. I am now in Edison, NJ. Thank you.

I remember this superb rendition of yours all those years ago. My mother and I heard you for the first few seconds and had no doubt you would do justice to this brilliant composition. You sang so effortlessly! The fact that the judge for that entire season was Sri Anil Biswas made it even more special. He is one of my favourite music directors from the golden era of Hindi film industry. He had brought the best out of Talat Mahmood's singular voice, not to mention the sublime music he would set to various ragas. Each composition of his brought out nuances of one raaga or the other.
