I’m so glad you guys reacted this way to the Sanji scene - people have blown it out of proportion over the years even to the degree of saying that Sanjis entire character is ruined by it when it’s mostly supposed to be for comedic relief that he’s upset he can’t watch women bathe and the zombies even point out how much of a hypocrite he is.

I haven't liked it since I first saw it like 7-8 years ago. I still don't. This is one of those examples where comic relief or not, a character is ruined. It's not blowing out of proportion. Me, and I think most other people can't accept this kind of behavior. Calling a justified reaction overreaction really says a lot about people.

@@aninass Then you better keep that same energy and hold Kin’emon, Brook and Momo to that same standard, cause they were trying to take a peek at Nami just like Sanji was. Oda even doubles down on the gag by having Sanji peek on women in the bathhouse in Wano despite it being a coed bathhouse, so he didn’t even need to turn invisible. Dude could have just walked in there

@@pubixcube27 Usopp, Luffy, Cobra, Igaram as well. Usopp and Luffy even laugh at Nami in Punk Hazard for it (there is even a Nami and Momo scene that is pretty questionable). I dislike the perv trope, i really hoped Oda would keep him as a silly simp, and i get people getting turned off by it, i read the manga only so i get through those parts fast. But for as much as we don't like it there is nothing more to that than it being a way overused trope in mangas than has pretty much no impact on the storyline (if not in ridiculous ways), on how his character is outside of that "gag" and on how other characters see and treat Sanji.

@@bluelight17 I agree, Oda has overused the trope a lot over the years, but I’ve gotten used to it. Like nowadays I can already anticipate a Sanji perv moment right after he has a serious one and vice versa. I will say that since Punk Hazard it hasn’t been that overused imo. You get the occasional bath house scene in Wano, or the Stussy scene on Egghead but they aren’t moments that ruin the overall character for me like it does for some people. And I’m only referencing the Manga btw, I don’t keep up with the anime, but I know toei likes to add more perv scenes that weren’t in the manga ie. The barking for Stussy

10:10 The official translation in the manga went like this :- "The women's bath, I mean..A beast's bride should only be another beast!!" He was still hung up on the bath, but here the dialogue went so weird like :- A beast should be satisfied with... "watching women bathe", Scratch that! with a beastly bride. He was hung up on it, but the articulation went so wrong.

Yeah, i went to read the dialogue on the manga cause the subs here are weird, and the italian translation goes like you said it. The subs don't really make much sense here🤔

Sanji would absolutely spy on women bathing but he would never do what Absalom has done throughout this arc to Nami and Robin. Not without their permission. Side note, Absalom's face - now that we've confirmed he's been stitched together from different animals, we have seen his actual face, the one he was born with. Way back at the beginning, our intrepid pirates came across a lion with a human face.

In case you're wondering, Sanji is not only a Simp but a Pervert as well. That's his bad side a lot of people dislike but oh well that's what Sanji is ... just not as bad as Absolom

Sanji only became a pervert after this retcon here on thriller bark. He isn't shown having any sex offender ambitions prior to this moment here. That wasn't part of his character. All he did from baratie till now was simp on women and try to court them into falling in love with him. That's what was intrinsic to his character Turning Sanji into a pervert was by far the worst character writing Oda does in the series, for the sake of writing terrible jokes that almost nobody but Oda himself find funny. Being a peeping tom goes against Sanji's character if anything. He's supposed to be chivalrous, kind, self-sacrificing and put women on a pedestal. Sanji invading women's privacies to satisfy his own lust spits on the face of his characterization. Edit: my comment came off aggressive I'm not hating on you or scolding you, btw. I'm just going more in depth on what you said here and ranting a bit on Oda's writing, not torwards anybody

@Elfascisto6549 Jesus, sanji's not some sacred artifact that was defiled by this development. Plenty of adults find the jokes funny, we can seperate fiction from reality. Yet most haters of this are degenerates and would secretly do this and do even more sexual jokes. There's no reason to get this self-conscious about a gag and ldcture about how "it's wrong".

​​​​​​​​@@nathandanczak7822 if you read my comment more attentively (which i assume you didn't), you would probably be able to see that my complaint wasn't about pervert jokes existing or the morality of them. My issue is that making Sanji a pervert betrays his established character and makes him a worse character for it. My issue lies on the writing, not the ethics. I called the jokes unfunny because next to nobody find them funny (on the western community at least). That was an off-comment, however, not my main point. I don't find them unfunny because they "trigger" me or i think they're "oFfEnSiVe". They're unfunny the same way zoro getting lost is unfunny. It's repetitive, it's highly predictable and one note. Sanji's "pervert gag" betrays his character on top of being very unfunny. It makes his character a hypocrite and more unlikeable, and also is a predictable, repetitive, one note joke on top of that

@@elfascisto6549 I love Sanji, i like his simp gag and i can't at how going on Oda made it more of a pervert one, but the peeping tom thing goes back to Alabasta and that included most of the crew (aside from Zoro), Igaram and freakin Cobra peeping on Nami and Vivi. Though i do agree it gets out of hand at a point, Oda often lets his own (very questionable) sense of humor get in the way of his characters, and i especially notice it in post ts. With the ridiculously big amount of side characters it too often seems like making the gags very extra is the only way he has to give some of the main crew more screentime (some others are often straight up just there).

Adult Sanji has his hidden agenda for wanting the clear clear fruit. However, child Sanji's reasoning for wanting it makes you really understand why it was a dream for him to eat it even at the cost of becoming an enemy of the sea. You'll understand in the 800 episodes.

Sanji is a pervert who would peek on women, sure, but he'd never hurt one in any way, or do something even remotely close to groping them, and kidnapping them to force them to marry him. All which Absalom did. Sanji being a pervert gets very annoying sometimes ok, but you're comparing a largely inoffensive perv who would still NEVER lay a hand on a woman against her will, to an actual harasser who would kidnap women and force himself on them. So no, no one buys your crap. This is not when you "stopped" liking Sanji. You never liked him, which is why you're very intentionally blowing things out of proportion to justify your own hatred. Otherwise you wouldn't make such a ridiculous comparison. Also, "most unlikable" lmao. Sanji is one of the most liked and popular characters in the series. He was fourth (only after Luffy, Zoro and Nami) in the WORLDWIDE OP Top-100 popularity contest from 2021 (even beating Robin), so that's truly hilarious. If you hate him because of his antics, its your right, but don't fool yourself into thinking "most people" agree, because they don't. Most people actually can see past one particular annoying (but inoffensive) character flaw, if the rest of the character is so good and well-written to be so endearing, which Sanji is. This is why he's extremely popular even with female fans, because most fans can see beyond the skin-level previness, and appreciate the amazing character underneath.

MelonTeee is quite obsessive with Sanji, and she's a woman. Numbers don't lie; the popularity polls always rank Sanji pretty high. Sanji has a lot of haters and a lot of fans. Don't close yourself in a bubble thinking only one group of people exists. Here are the positions in the last 7 popularity polls. Take a look at where Sanji landed, usually in 3rd or 4th place. In the last popularity poll in 2021, he was in 4th place: Monkey D. Luffy: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 Roronoa Zoro: 2-2-2-2-3-2-2 Nami: 5-5-7-6-8-8-3 Sanji: 4-3-3-3-4-3-4
