In theiller bark Zoro takes all the pain for luffy and the only one who saw him standing arms crossed was Sanji. Sanji has infinite amounts of respect for Zoro and vice verse. In theiller bark when Sanji hurt himsel on kuma, Zoros face was shocked. He couldn’t believe someone he perceived to be on his level feel so easy. Yes but consider that zoro, ace, Rayleigh, garp, etc, all other CH users gave up their ambitions to people with SUPERIOR ambitions. Usually other CH users. By superior ambitions I mean someone with even stronger convictions and aspirations. Sanji gave it up specifically to someone with WEAKER ambitions and became a shell of himself. The zoro situation is actually the complete opposite. Zoro gives up his will to someone with a STRONGER ambition, and does so while maintaining his ambition. Sanji gave it up to someone with WEAKER ambition, and gave his up entirely. Kinda shows the difference, whether oda intended it or not.

I’ve noticed something with the monster trio but they all have what some consider impossible dreams AND they always put some sort of limitation on themselves for example luffy will fight 1v1 fairly but he won’t complain if the enemy cheats or tricks him, zoro will fight enemies even if he’s injured from previous fights without complaining(sanji too), and Sanji’s main drawback is his weakness to women all these limit them in various fights and make their fights harder and this might be a reason why they are conquerers they are all on the same path but each of them is learning about their conquerers haki one after another

zoro is striving to complete a possible, yet insanely difficult goal. defeating the strongest swordsman in a fight, like mihawk is right there zoro just needs to train to win. sanji is striving for an impossible, yet simple goal. all he has to do is sail around, yet he has to reach a place widely considered to not exist. so for sanji, dying before reaching his goal is a real fear and as long as he lives he believes he can eventually get there. while for zoro he NEEDS to risk death to reach his goal. they both have the will to do something no one else has been able to do, but have very different paths to travel to get there.

If you think about it both Zoro and Sanji at some point supress their spirit and in Wano they unlock it, as the crew fully transitions to being a yonko crew. Well for Sanji he had to do some extra leg work in WCI because his spirit was severely supressed for a long time, as he had reached a state where he was more willing to throw his life away to guarantee his friends' safety, rather than to risk everything on the small silver of a chance that meant he could come away with everything. In Wano we get to see the development he got by him actually relying on Robin to beat Black Maria where as before he'd choose to literally die just because this scenario meant Robin doesn't even have to fight and potentially lose to Black Maria. And later in his fight with Queen he gets hit with the ultimate dilemma where he's given the opportunity to become strong enough to almost guarantee Luffy's ascension to PK but in exchange he'd lose all his emotions, those same emotions that make him who he is. Then much like with Zoro, Sanji remembers Luffy told him "I can't be pirate without *you* " not the Prince of Germa, not the cold-hearted edgy Stealth black, but the son of Zeff and chef of the strawhat pirates, 'Black leg' Sanji. And this gives Sanji all the clarity he needs to make his decision, and he risks everything and bets his life on him surpassing Queen during this battle and walking away with not only his emotions but the power he needs to help Luffy become PK too, unlocking Ifirt Jambe. Zoro at some point started putting Luffy's ambitions above those of his own, even though Zoro still aimed to be the world's strongest swordsman, if he was put in a situation where he'd be able to become the world's strongest swordsman but in exchange he would die without helping Luffy become PK, Zoro would likely actually reject this deal before the King fight. This is why the whole Enma thing becomes resolved when Zoro just says "fuck it, if I die, I die, take everything" and suddenly Zoro tames Enma and unlocks his conqueror's haki. Enma wanted someone who was willing to put their life on the line 100%, and when Zoro thinks about how this could mean he'd die, he remembers what Luffy told him way back when: "The world's strongest swordsman huh? The pirate king wouldn't settle for anything less." This was when Zoro remembered that him living doesn't mean jack ish if he doesn't become the world's strongest swordsman first and foremost, and so he also bets his life on taming this sword because it would lead him that much closer to becoming the world's strongest swordsman, and indirectly doing what Luffy would've wanted him to do.

I think it was mentioned before, but in a way all of the crew suppresses their own desires to follow Luffy and support his. Fans try to cope by saying that some achieve their desires along the way, BUT the thing is that their desires are secondary to Luffy's. Both Sanji and Zoro were willing to lay down their lives for Luffy. When your desire is that strong, you don't bend for ANYTHING. Roger left his kid so he can do whatever it was he wanted to do. That's unyielding willpower. If Chopper had a strong will to study medicine, he would be off to someplace where he could fully devote himself to the most intense research and exploration into that field. If Nami wanted to really chart the seas, she's do something that directly aligns with that. But by being on Luffy's ship, Luffy becomes their prime ambition OR they've suppressed their own true wills to serve his. So I think that both Sanji and Zoro definitely were suppressed and I think they sort of showed that with Zoro and that phantom of death during his King fight. Can't necessarily say Zoro is stronger with all the Nika mania going on but if Kaido is right and Haki still wins IN THE END, I think Zoro is definitely suppressing much more than we think. Both him and Sanji are...for reasons I'm not sure of.

I think he just wants to travel, have fun, and be with is friends. That's why he will never leave his friends behind. His friends mean everything to him. The journey is the setting through which he gets to have fun with them. It doesn't matter to Luffy where he is going and what he is doing as long as he has his friends with him and woe to anyone who brings harm to them. That is also why he ends up beating down some big bad. Because a friend he made was abused. So Luffy never gives up his desire to save his friends. His friends ARE his desire.

Most of the strawhats changed or showed their true selves cuz of Luffy. Zoro flat out told Luffy he'd make him kill himself if he has to abandon his dream cuz of him when they first met. Then nearly died in Thriller Bark for Luffy's dream Nami hated pirates let alone becoming one cuz of Arlong. Then chose potential death instead of bad mouthing Luffy's dream. Sanji doubted Zoro and Luffy's dream, thinking the would die for nothing. Then he joined the crew cuz he was a dreamer just like Luffy and remembered what its like to fight for it, which was expanded more in WCI Chopper didn't even think he belonged in a crew with humans cuz he was a "monster" and now he chose to accept it cuz it means he can help Luffy. Robin was borderline suicidal and thought she just deserves to die and now she wants to live and be with her friends.

I believe its based off Sanjis past experiences with having his ambition but also feeling indebted to Zeff he cast aside his dream for the man who sacrificed his dream so Sanji could live... as well as mentoring him and training him and more as well as learning to give up his dream to survive from Zeff leading to him telling Zoro to just give up even though he used to be the exact same before getting stranded. Which is why Zeff compared Sanji to Zoro and Luffy calling him a spear stifling his dream, and we can see this through Sanji's selflessness and always willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others, just like Zoro putting aside his dream to become the number 1 swordsman for the man he respects and his captain luffy at several points in the story (thriller bark, the timeskip).

Then again, the idea of needing a farfetched ambition that requires you to fight and compete with a bunch of other people as a requirement for conquerers in the eyes of many one piece fans is very silly, considering the fact that a lot of conquerer users having no such dreams and just going on their own path, like Whitebeard who just wanted a family, and Shanks, who is one of the top haki users in the show, literally just wanting to protect his friends. I don't think Zeff cut off his leg because he valued his life above his dream, I think the point of him cutting off his leg is that he's passing on his dream to Sanji, and that he needs to insure that he'll grow up into the man that will accomplish that dream. If he really thought that his life was more important than his ambitions, then he wouldn't praise Luffy and Zoro for doing the opposite. I think Sanji misinterpreted him and he had to be corrected by seeing Luffy and Zoro.

me gustaria que sanji tenga haki del conquistador, aunque no lo perfeccione hasta el avanzado porque eso seria demasiado. aunque aun hay varias escenas de sanji que me dejan pensando, ya que el es el unico que desecho al menos una vez su sueño de estar con luffy y encontrar el all blue cuando lo invitaron a la fiesta de big mom, algo que alguien con haki del conquistador nunca haria, por ejemplo luffy que prefiere morir antes de entregar su sueño.

one reason why i think sanji wouldn't throw away his dreams for his ambitions or ideology, is his chivalry. he literally would die than lay hands on a women that definitely counts as willing to die for his friends and his beliefs. He also would handicap himself for his culinary craft or specialize in kicks because of it. I didn't get through restless gambler's answer yet, I wanted to reply my own first

i'd like sanji to have conqueror haki, even if he doesn't perfect it until advanced because that would be too much. although there are still several scenes of sanji that leave me thinking, since he's the only one who at least once threw away his dream of being with luffy and finding the all blue when he was invited to big mom's party, something that someone with conqueror haki would never do, for example luffy who prefers to die before giving up his dream.
