Make a watercolor palette using tube paints

A quick run-through on how to prepare your palette for watercolor painting using tubes of paint.
The palette is a plastic folded style, available in most art supply shops.
I prefer Daniel Smith watercolors. (Btw: I'm using the US spelling due to it being an American company.)
MY NEW WATERCOLOUR COLOURS USED IN THIS VIDEO:
All “Daniel Smith” unless otherwise stated
Bismuth Vanadate Yellow
Gamboge Hue (Rowney)
Orange: Indian yellow and Opera Pink
Perylene Red
Alizarin Crimson
Burnt Yellow Ochre
Burnt Umber (W&N)
Burnt Umber
Carbazole Violet
Light Green: Cerulean Blue and any yellow
Mid Green: Veridian (W&N) and Gamboge (Rowney)
Amazonite Genuine (Teal)
Manganese Blue Hue
Cerulean
French Ultramarine Blue (missing!)

Paper: Arches Watercolour Rough (or NOT) 300 gsm 31 x 41cm
Paint: Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolours
White: Winsor & Newton Acrylic Titanium White
Other White: Winsor and Newton Designers Gouache Permanent White
Brushes: Art Secret Watercolour Mops, Escoda, lots of others.

Love your tips on mixing in the palette and the pliers .. . . you didn't mention how you break the palette in half to create better space at your easel . . . that's a good tip too!

Your mixed colors...is there a specific aim with them or were you just finishing off some tubes? Why I'm asking: isn't there a color comparable to what you've mixed? Just curious. Of the demonstrations you have offered and I've seen to date, they have been excellent videos! Thank you very much for sharing!

Thankyou. I’m glad you like my videos. I’ll mix two colours so as not to waste them. I have tubes that are not being used, so I’d rather create a new unique colour. If I were to go to the art shop and buy another tube, my unused ones will remain unused! Paint is expensive and I like to know that nothing is wasted.

Hi, do you find if you leave the colors wet you get more vibrant colors? Then, drying out the paint. ?

Good question. When I’m ready to paint I will wet the blocks. And yes, they are more intense when wet. But straight from the tube is sometimes wasteful, as I tend to treat them like gouache or acrylic.

Are tubes good for newer watercolor students or the ready made pans better? Any thoughts?

Sorry I’ve taken a while to answer. I believe that you start with tubes. Set yourself up with the correct gear, and you are halfway to success before you start!
