I truly miss having access to these items! As I've mentioned before, I grew up collecting Sanrio but before the Sanrio stores started popping up in the mid '90s, it was exclusively at Asian owned Hallmark stores. It was about 10 years ago the stores started shutting down (I still have left over point cards I can never use lol) and really cheap things started popping up especially in the Target and Michael's dollar sections. After a while those things also died down and I find small things here and there but there is now no access (as you say the website is extremely limited). I mainly invested in notebooks, letter sets, pens, etc. and I miss collecting them dearly! I did use them to send notes in school and to this day still send letters in the mail to the same friends. There is no Daiso in this area and they've certainly not reappeared in any Hallmarks lol it makes me so sad when this is one of my most beloved companies and hobbies. Anyway, thanks for sharing, Kiki & Lala are one of my all time faves as well. Do you remember Spottie Dottie and Picke Bicke? Lol, Happy holidays to you and your family!

Love your mini “history of Sanrio in the US” lesson. I’m sad to hear that all the Sanrio stores closed. I thought there might still be some around but I guess not. I do remember spottie Dottie and picke bicke, so many characters have come and gone. I guess Sanrio relies mainly on licensing at least in the US. Happy holidays to you as well!

It's not just in your area. As someone who's from the East Coast, I haven't seen a Sanrio store in years. Maybe it's because some of the stuff are pricy? Admittedly, even one location that opened in a more Asian community a few years ago didn't last for long either. When I first went there, and all the other times I've passed by it, I would see very few to no people in the store. I think that's why there aren't as many if any Sanrio store locations anymore. It is good that there are other places to buy Sanrio products, and of course we have the internet, but I still miss going to Sanrio stores. Maybe that's why San-X only had a Rillakuma pop-up shop in Times Square in New York a couple of years ago. It's a little easier for me since I live in a diverse city to find Sanrio stuff among things from Japan, but I do get that not everyone has that kind of access even with the internet. Although in the neighborhood I'm from, I'm still limited to access from physical stores because I don't want to chance going to more crowded and touristy areas due to COVID-19. On a positive note, I love everything on here! It's hard to choose what I love most in this video, but realistically, I'd choose the pens like the My Melody Sarasa ones. I have a Rillakuma one with pink ink, so I can say from experience that there is a smoothness to how it writes. I'd like to get more Sarasa pens in the future even if they didn't have any specific characters on them.

Aww I guess the consensus is that Sanrio has closed all its stores in the US. The Sanrio store is pricey, you’re right - even in Japan. But in japan you can also buy cheaper Sanrio items at 100 yen stores like Daiso. The quality is not as great but it’s still cute. The Sanrio store used to be the place to be when I was growing up - always crowded! I loved the cute bags and how they taped a small charm on the corner. Thanks for the update on the state of Sanrio on the east coast ❤️❤️❤️

@@MariesKawaiiWorld no some of the Sanrio stores are small business, independently owned, not all are corporate. I've heard from some of the Sanrio stores that it's because of high rent, the pandemic, and that the owners were getting old that they wanted to stop selling.

they charged extra for US because it needs to be imported which costs money and to get that money back + make a profit they are sold at stores for higher price, which then gets sold on shelves at a higher price so they can make profit. at least that’s my guess, i know it costs more because it’s imported for a facf
