Continuing my walks across the central valley of Costa Rica, I take a bus to Santa Barbara, where I went two weeks ago, and continue from there, walking to Alajuela. I cross the provincial boundary between Heredia and Alajuela provinces, walk through the Desemparados district of Alajuela, and finally reach Alajuela central, where I take a train home.
This video shows, in a brief fashion, some of the mixture of urban, suburban and rural areas we find at the edge of the San Jose area.

I found this walk interesting as it featured the church of San Pedro de Santa Barbara where the funeral of a much loved friend took place last November. All being well I plan to visit the church from the UK this September.

I am really glad that it helped you, then! One of the reasons I make videos like this is that I know that "everyday" places can be very important for people who have memories there. It is also interesting to me because this walk wasn't actually one of my more beautiful ones---I prefer Costa Rica's smaller towns--- but I am glad it means something so important to you.

@@glowingfish Thank you, it does. For me it's also great to see less well known areas and towns of the country highlighted. I absolutely adore Costa Rica which was mainly due to having had an amazing tour manager, my friend, on two trips there. I'll be returning on another organised trip this June but my September trip will be a totally independent one where I'll be visiting less well know areas. Many thanks again for your videos, I'll be keeping an eye out for them.

@@JacquieCurtis-f1x Well, there are two reasons I like to feature lesser-known areas. First, there really isn't a reason to make another video about the most famous tourist towns---there must be dozens or hundreds of videos about Monteverde or La Fortuna. Also, it is a lot less time and money to go to nearby towns on day trips! I don't want to spend money for a hotel in Monteverde! :)

@@glowingfish I agree with you, plus the pueblos and lesser known areas for me have more character and I much prefer to meet the local people rather than hoards of tourists. Please keep walking and posting!

@@JacquieCurtis-f1x There will be a lot more walks! Luckily, I also have around 1000 videos over the past four years...although most of them are not in Costa Rica. I have lots of videos of the United States and walking around, too!
