Santa Clara Students Learn How Clothing Choices Affect Global Warming

This week, as Santa Clara University kicks off its biannual tUrn Climate Crisis Awareness and Action Week, from April 22 to 26, students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to join the effort to limit climate change by learning from a variety of in-person events on campus and Zoom headliner events that are free and open to the public.
But back in early March, dozens of enviro-conscious SCU community members had already gotten a jump-start on their goals to reduce global warming by participating in SCU’s Annual EcoFashion Show.
Co-hosted by the Center for Sustainability, Career Center and SCU-Presents Performing Arts Center, the popular nighttime show is a fun way to consider the environmental impact of the fashion industry and learn about sustainable solutions.
Organized by Veronica Johnson, academic and engagement program manager at the Center for Sustainability, vivacious student models-dressed in trendy outfits created by talented SCU designers-strutted proudly on stage before an enthusiastic audience of 125-plus fans. The catch? All of the fashions were made from re-used, repurposed, or upcycled clothing.
Like tUrn Week, Santa Clara’s annual EcoFashion Show aims to educate citizens and leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion, and cultivate knowledge and faith to build a more humane, just, and sustainable world.
