First off, this has to be the best lot video production I’ve ever seen so hats off to everyone at Ensemble Block and thank you for this! Secondly, either the politics of drum corps is still very much alive or the fact that the field judge has been removed , but this is not a 4th place percussion ensemble… I’m sorry. I’ve seen the lines and front ensembles that are beating SCV and there’s only 1 that even comes remotely close. These guys are on another level this year and even by Rennick SCV era. This is one of those 06’ , 10’ Phantom line, good. Wow. Aggressive, next level clean, balanced, and playing NOTES. Fantastic.

Rennick is just the best writer/arranger of at least the last decade IMO. We did a watered down version of his ‘94 UNT indoor show when I was in high school. Could be mic placement, but sounds like the snares are still trying to clean up the last few specs of dirt. Tenors and basses have it locked down hard. They’ll pull it all together over the next week or so heading to East and then finals. Sound amazing for a come-back group! Rooting for them!

Loving all these videos coming out from Ensemble Block! Please tell me there will be videos of the front ensemble warm ups. Sandi Rennick and staff have set up just as an amazing group! Would love to see what their exercises are this year.

Thank you for the kind words...we'll do our best to put out more! We don't have too many clips of the front ensemble warm-ups, though we have plenty of shots of the front during full show runs (for example kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3rbi36iqceNiNE). Hopefully, next time we're at a show we'll make it a point to film their warmup! Cheers!

@@EnsembleBlock I don’t normally notice the bass line but the way they have theirs tuned is impeccable. It speaks very clearly, on top of being played excellently. I feel like the cymbal line also pushes the tonality of the line to make more impact. The whole line also playing very cleanly. They sound incredible.

@tracyweller71082 ай бұрын
@@noahoul Yeah I looked at the scores from yesterday and they shouldn't be beating SCV or the Devils in Comp. They should be with Carolina in comp. They're achieving but with a less dense book. The SCV tenor section alone is destroying everyone! They are beast!!

SCV is famous for their Cymbal line, but in almost every SCV video they dont show them. For a lot of marching bands outside of DCI (even globally), Cymbal players look up to them. But its sad we cant see them in the videos, so disappointing 😢

We have tons of footage that we are working through. We are currently backed up with Texas All State video resources and Rennick's Online course. We will put it in the cue! Great idea! We will most likely have a section cam for a full run-through. 👍🏼

Gonna get crucified for my opinion, but I don't care for this book. Sure, the difficulty and technicality is there, but where's the music? It sounds too technical and not musical.
@EnsembleBlock2 ай бұрын
You are certainly entitled to having your own opinion, but perhaps check it out in context with the full percussion sound? kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3rbi36iqceNiNE (there's notation for movements II & IV for a closer look). Even if it doesn't change your mind, again, you are certainly allowed to have your own opinion!
@BatterySonic15 күн бұрын
@@EnsembleBlock I appreciate the provided context and I agree that a good amount of impacts fit together with the full ensemble, but I still can't help but feel like the battery is just playing a game of "How many notes can we squeeze into every phrase?" It's just too much fluff in so many areas. It makes the music feel much more frantic than it should be.
